Mega Trippy Mutant Reportedly Sells for Millions
In this post

A Mega Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT has moved into a new wallet, part of an alleged 2,300 ETH sale between the founder and an advisor to the Mutant Cartel project.

Lior, the founder of crypto and web3 investment firm Eden Block and Mutant Cartel, announced his acquisition on Twitter on Tuesday — around the time the sale was first reported in the Bored Ape Gazette. Lior told the Gazette the deal for Mega Mutant Ape No. 30,005 included “ETH and NFTs.” The deal is worth about $3.87 million.

Lior thanked 0xb1, the formerly anonymous NFT collector who bought the Mega Mutant Serum NFT which became the Mega Trippy MAYC in December of 2021 for 999 ETH (about $3.65 million then). Over the past month, 0xb1 (the assumed owner of the NFT) was holding a quasi-Dutch auction for the Mega Trippy, starting it at 5,000 ETH and lowering it to 2,000 ETH on Aug. 4 before canceling the last listing.

The wallet presumably belonging to 0xb1 was lowering the price of the Mega Trippy Mutant significantly this past month.

After Mutant Cartel held a virtual event to showcase 0xb1’s serum “chug” (which Lior hosted) and reveal of the Mega Trippy MAYC in February, 0xb1 was named to the Mutant Cartel’s board of advisors in March. Mutant Cartel is a community and DAO which is "seeking to enrich the MAYC universe." The organization has an NFT project called the Genesis Oath, which grants members-only access to the group. The floor for the Genesis Oath Pledge NFT is 0.094 ETH.

In July, KeyFi and FODL Finance founder Jason Stone said he was part of team managing the 0xb1 Twitter account and also announced his company was suing the Celsius Network due to an alleged lack of compensation and concerns that Celsius was a “Ponzi scheme.”

As of 11 p.m. ET, the Mega Trippy MAYC sat in a wallet funded by its previous owner. The sale price was not verified.
