Polygon zkEVM Launches, Vitalik Buterin Performs First Transaction

Polygon Labs announces the launch of Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta, a permissionless, public, and open-source platform for Ethereum scaling.
🔎 The Deets
- Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta is permissionless, public, and open-source
- Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin performed the first transaction
- Premier dApps, gaming projects, and infrastructure providers are launching on Mainnet Beta from day one
- Security measures are in place for Mainnet Beta, with ongoing improvements planned
The Details
Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta is a groundbreaking platform that offers permissionless, public, and open-source Ethereum scaling. Ethereum co-creator, Vitalik Buterin, has already performed the symbolic first transaction on the Mainnet Beta.
This launch has attracted a wide range of premier dApps, gaming projects, and infrastructure providers, including Lens, Balancer, Midnight Society, Oath of Peak, ANKR, Alchemy, Sequence, and The Graph. These integrations demonstrate the high level of interest in and potential for Polygon zkEVM.
Security is a top priority for Polygon Labs, and as a result, they have implemented a two-stage security plan for the Mainnet Beta. Stage I involves a dedicated Security Council, while Stage II focuses on greater decentralization and user protection without a privileged Security Council. To enhance censorship resistance, users will eventually be able to force transactions to Ethereum L1 in case of failures. Additionally, an ongoing bug bounty program and multiple outside audits contribute to the platform's security.
❗Why It Matters
The launch of Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta is a significant development for the crypto and NFT ecosystems. It marks a major step forward in Ethereum scaling and opens up new possibilities for building on the Ethereum network.
The involvement of premier dApps, gaming projects, and infrastructure providers highlights the potential impact of Polygon zkEVM on the wider web3 space.
