Timbaland Says 'You Can Make a Franchise' With NFTs

Timbaland sat down with gmoney (@gmoneyNFT) today to talk about web3 and NFTs, and he is excited about the future of the space.

The interview took place on Admit One's podcast and included his metaverse director Zayd.

During the interview, the Grammy-award-winning producer, songwriter, rapper, and record executive questioned why people aren't doing more with their own NFTs.

"If this is popular and worth something and we own the IP, why are we not making this more than what it is?," Timbaland asked rhetorically. "You can do more than just collect. You can make a franchise with these things."

In November 2021, Timbaland dropped his remixable NFTs, each of which was built around tracks from his Opera Noir EP. To remix the NFTs, collectors have to have two and it unlocks the mixing machine. If collectors own five or more NFTs, they receive a limited-edition full song NFT.

Timbaland also dropped a limited 252-piece TIMEPieces NFT collection in April. Each NFT included a surprise pack of 10 sounds from Beatclub.

When asked why he entered the web3 and NFT space, Timbaland said he "never wants to be late to the party."

"It's just right up my alley. It's a place where I can be free," Timbaland said. "I was talking to Ryan, and Ryan said, 'I don't know what's going to come out of this, but it's the most fun I've ever had doing music. And to me, that's worth more than any money in the world."
