An Introduction to DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR
In this post

Professional golf is indeed in "Full Swing" right now. With new rival leagues, a recent hit documentary series, elevated events, and so much more going on, it's no wonder that there are as many eyeballs on golf as there ever have been. With that excitement comes new forms of fantasy golf, like DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR. In this article, I'll take you through what the game is, how to play it, and some critical information you need to know before diving in. So, let's get started.

What Is DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR?

DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR is a fantasy sports game that allows you to build a portfolio of your favorite golfers in the form of digital trading cards or NFTs. Much like traditional fantasy sports in Reignmakers PGA TOUR you receive fantasty points based on the performance of the golfer. You can collect as many cards as you'd like, and there are a number of ways to collect and acquire these cards, which I will go into now!

How to Buy Reignmakers PGA TOUR NFTs

Want to get started with DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR? You'll need at least five player card NFTs to build a lineup. Below I'll walk through the three ways to acquire your own cards.

Now that the basics of the game are defined, let's talk about how to acquire these cards before I go into the more nuanced and detailed nuances of the game.

1. Buy Packs on the Primary Marketplace

The easiest way to get PGA TOUR Reignmakers cards is through packs on the primary marketplace. Just like getting a pack of trading cards, it's a similar opening experience with DraftKings Reignmakers. You can watch this video to understand how that process works, and I'll explain how to purchase these packs or cards below.

The primary way to purchase these PGA TOUR packs is through drops. While new drops happen throughout the season, the first pack drop available is the GENESIS Set Drop. The available packs to purchase can be found here in the Drops section of the Reignmakers Marketplace.

There are three different types of packs, with contents of varying rarities housed within (more on this below).

2. Buy Cards on the Secondary Marketplace

Speaking of the marketplace, this is the secondary market where users can buy and sell individual cards of golfers of their choosing at whatever price they determine. These two methods are the main ways to acquire these cards.

3. Buy Cards via Auctions

The final way to buy DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR cards is via auctions on the primary marketplace. Here individuals can place bids on special Reignmakers cards of their choosing.

Rarity Tiers

Now that you know what the game is and how to acquire the cards, I need to go into more detail about the cards themselves. For each golfer, there are five different rarity tiers of cards. Each of these tiers has a certain number of cards in it on a per-player basis. The tiers are as follows with the corresponding supply counts per golfer:

  • CORE
  • RARE (120)
  • ELITE (75)
  • LEGENDARY (25)
  • REIGNMAKER (2)

At CORE, the number of player card editions isn't capped, but at RARE and above, there is a limited amount of each player in the GENESIS set.

As one can imagine, the more limited the number of editions, typically the more valuable the card is.

How to Play DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR

Up to this point, all I've talked about is how to spend money; now it's time to talk about how to make it. There are a two primary ways to interact with Reignmakers PGA TOUR. The first and most obvious way is to use your cards and enter fantasy sports contests. These contests are free to enter and provide solid prize pools throughout the entire season. Here is what first place is paying for this week at The Players Championship:

  • CORE ($5,000)
  • RARE ($10,000)
  • ELITE ($20,000)
  • LEGENDARY ($15,000)
  • REIGNMAKER ($15,000)

A full list of prize pools for the innagurual season can be found here

These contests are scored the same way regular PGA DFS contests are scored, but the lineup construction is a bit different. In this format, the roster looks like this:

  • Captain's Slot (scores 1.5x fantasy points)
  • Any Golfer
  • Any Golfer
  • Any Golfer
  • Any Golfer

There are no restrictions on what golfers you can play on a team, but different rarity contests have different lineup requirements. For example, to field a valid lineup in an ELITE contest, users will need to roster at least three ELITE player cards, but they can fill in the final two spots with RARE cards if they choose.

Buy and Sell Player Cards

Another popular way to "play" DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR is to use the marketplace and buy and sell cards. The marketplace on DraftKings allows users to buy and sell with their peers, and for those of you that like to hit flop shots on the course, then the flip-flop strategy might be perfect for you. Active collectors will also have the opportunity to participate in collector challenges. These challenges will vary in size and scope, and currently, three are being offered:

  • The Genesis Race to 200: Collect at least 50 cards at the RARE level and above and earn a share of $150,000. Full details are here.
  • The FEDEX Scavenger Hunt: Collect any of the five finalists at the Elite or Legendary tier on the FEDEX Cup list and receive $150.
  • Franchise Score: Each card you own has a "franchise score" value, and throughout the season, those scores are put against all the other collectors. If your score meets certain criteria, you will be eligible to split prizes that will total around $2 million throughout the season.

For those that want to invest a bit of time and, of course, money, I've found DraftKings Reignmakers to be one of the most enjoyable forms of fantasy sports. There's so much more to learn about the game and the strategies behind it, and if you are interested in learning more, stay tuned for some of my general strategies for Reignmakers PGA TOUR.
