Founded by Xin Li-Cohen and Audrey Ou, TRLab is a fine art-focused tech startup with a twist. It aims to make fine art and art history accessible through digital-first experiences, including competitive challenges and digital collectibles. The recently closed funding round was led by Hivemind Capital Partners and OKX Ventures, with HashKey Capital also contributing to the $5 million sum.
The founders have a rich history in the art world. Li-Cohen is a non-executive Deputy Chairman at Christie's, while Ou is the CEO. Their unique experience has shaped TRLab's unique approach, which combines online learning and gamification to introduce people to the world of fine art.
From its operational hubs in New York and Hong Kong, TRLab has already partnered with Vogue, the Calder Foundation, and contemporary artists like Cai Guo-Qiang. Its 'play-to-learn' model has introduced participants from 60 different countries to modern artists like Alexander Calder.
With the newly secured capital, TRLab plans to bring on more artists and cultural institutions while integrating advanced technology to enhance the digital art collecting experience. Several new art experiences are slated for the next six months, including an immersive digital art exhibition this November.
