Vault Music Producing 'Cassette Culture 3.0,' Live Albums From Top Independent Artists

Vault Music, the digital format for limited-edition music drops, is reintroducing "Cassette Culture" using blockchain technology to preserve and distribute exclusive live albums from top independent musicians in New York City, according to a press release shared with Lucky Trader.

The Deets

  • Cassette Culture 3.0: A revival of the historic "cassette culture" movement, enhanced with blockchain technology.
  • Limited Edition Live Albums: 50 unique performances captured from NYC's music scene.
  • Expanding Reach: Vault Music plans to extend its project to Los Angeles, Nashville, Austin, Amsterdam, and London by 2023.
  • Artist Empowerment: The platform allows artists to control the price and scarcity of their music, providing a new revenue stream.

The Bulk

In the 1970s through the 1990s, an underground music scene known as "cassette culture" arose, featuring home-recorded, alternative music distributed on cassette tapes. This culturally significant movement offered music enthusiasts a unique way to discover non-mainstream music but failed to provide a viable income stream for artists.

Vault Music is reviving this cassette culture into a web3 version called Cassette Culture 3.0. The concept involves capturing live performances from the vibrant New York City music scene and preserving these as limited-edition live albums on the Vault Music platform. These recordings are fully tradable and non-degradable, providing an exciting new avenue for musicians to earn from their craft.

To date, Vault has captured live shows from some of New York's top underground venues like Bowery Electric and the Mercury Lounge with performances from AKTHESAVIORJuniperMiddle PartAnna Shoemaker.

Each drop can be purchased from Vault's Music Platform, or via the Vault mobile app on iOS or Android. Based on the Solana blockchain, Vault has made it easy for music fans to collect the music they want, allowing purchases via credit card, PayPal, Phantom wallet, or in-app purchases in the Vault Mobile App.

❗️Why It Matters

The launch of Vault Music's Cassette Culture 3.0 highlights a novel application of blockchain technology in preserving and uplifting the cultural importance of local music scenes. In particular, the ability to distribute their music quickly and affordably via the blockchain allows independent artists to replicate the worldwide reach achieved by going on tour.
