Will Canon Launch Its Own NFT Marketplace?

Canon, the digital imaging giant best known for its cameras and printers, filed a trademark application last week related to "downloadable mobile applications for providing a marketplace for buyers and sellers of blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFT) and prints of NFT."

❗ Why it Matters

Despite the bear market in digital assets, we continue to see web2 companies enter the space. Canon now joins a growing list of companies to have filed trademark applications in the space that also includes names like Apple, Amazon, Hermes, Nike and more.

❓ What's in the Trademark Application?

The following items are mentioned in the application:

  • Providing an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFT) and prints of NFTs; operating an online marketplace featuring blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFT) and prints of NFTs
  • Creation of online retail stores for others in the nature of web-based services that allow users to create hosted blockchain-based non-fungible token (NFT) stores
  • Downloadable mobile applications for providing a marketplace for buyers and sellers of blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFT) and prints of NFT
