Axie Infinity Breaks Through Apple App Store Barrier

Axie Infinity: Origins, a card based strategy game, is now available on the Apple App Store in select geographic regions.

The Bulk

Expanding its reach in the gaming market, Origins has now made its debut on the Apple App Store in several countries across LATAM and Asia. This significant step follows the game's previous feature-limited launch on the Malaysian Google Play Store back in December 2022, which provided an opportunity to refine gameplay before broader release.

Within this early iOS version of Origins, players can leverage their own NFT axies or choose to play with upgradeable starter axies in both Adventure and Arena Modes. However, in order to comply with current App Store policies, certain restrictions have been put in place.

Moonshard crafting recipes are readily available in-app. In contrast, SLP crafting recipes will necessitate the use of desktop or Android APK versions. Although players will continue to accrue SLP through gameplay, the rewards will not be claimable within the app itself.

Origins' successful entry into the Apple App Store marks a significant milestone in the intersection of NFTs and mobile gaming. Apple's push back on web3 apps or those that offer NFTs has been widely documented, potentially hindering the advancement, particularly of web3 mobile games. However, the Axie "victory" could create precedent for a new wave of games finding their way into the App Store, albeit likely still with geographic restrictions.
