Yuga Labs Taps Blizzard Head As Next CEO
Yuga Labs is hiring a former Activision Blizzard executive as its new CEO, according to a release.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club parent company has tapped former Blizzard COO and President Daniel Alegre for the lead job, replacing Nicole Muniz, who will remain with the company as a partner and advisor.
“Nicole, (co-founder) Greg (Solano), and I have been on the hunt for someone with Daniel’s skill set for some time,” said Yuga Labs co-founder Wylie Aronow in the release. “The business, our ambitions, and the complexity of the work have grown beyond our wildest expectations. We are thrilled to have him join the team to help with our vision of a truly interoperable metaverse.”
Before Blizzard, Alegre worked at Google for 16 years in different roles including president of the company’s Asian operations before moving up to lead global partnerships for the technology company.
Alegre will start “in the first half of 2023.”
Solano and Aronow are hoping Alegre, who has a “proven track record of building at the highest possible level” can take Yuga Labs to “new heights,” they said in a statement on the Yuga Labs website.
“We’re unshakeable in our conviction of how NFTs will reinvigorate the gaming, entertainment, and lifestyle industries while opening up a space of possibility we can’t conceive of yet (though we are starting to),” the statement said.
At Blizzard, Alegre worked on Call of Duty, Diablo, Candy Crush, and one of Aronow and Solano’s “personal favorites”: World of Warcraft.
“(Yuga Labs) has become a creative powerhouse with ongoing ambitions to be at the forefront of such innovation. I am extremely excited to lead the team to the next phase of growth,” said Alegre in a LinkedIn message announcing his new post.
Alegre is the owner of Mutant Ape Yacht Club No. 3850, according to his Twitter bio. The NFT was purchased on Dec. 15 by a new, Coinbase-funded wallet for 16 ETH.
