The Details:
LaMelo Ball, an NBA star and trendsetter, will bring his universe to life in The Sandbox Metaverse, a playground for creators, collectors, and fans.
Melo's Social Hub, the first event, will run from April 17 to May 1 and feature 19 unique quests related to Melo's hobbies. This event is part of the March Festival event's progression system, with users who complete all quests being rewarded with a Mystery Box.
Players participating in the event can also win a share of a 100,000 $SAND prize pool, approximately $68,000.
❗️Why It Matters
LaMelo has already been prominently featured in web3 via both NBA Top Shot and his own NFT collection. While his foundational project has drawn criticsms, the partnership with the Sandbox offers a direct reward to winning participants...there's no need to wait for floor price to go up.
On the otherhand, Sandbox partnerships are no longer major storylines, as the platform has done an exceptional job at getting major brands into its metaverse for side games and events like this. But it still seems unlikely that its metaverse is ready for a major influx of players or daily participants.
