Deadline Nears for 'Currency' Holders
Holders of “The Currency” NFTs from artist Damien Hirst have until July 27 at 10 a.m. ET to decide whether they want to burn their token for a physical piece of art.
There have been 2,374 wallets that have decided to burn their NFTs of the 10,000-edition collection to receive their corresponding works, which were created in 2016 by Hirst’s studio. Those who choose to keep their NFTs will see the physical version destroyed by Hirst (after an exhibition that has yet to be scheduled).
The NFT is on the Palm blockchain and according to HENI, a London-based art services business and technology company that supports the distribution of “Currency,” there have been more than $87 million in sales on the platform. The highest sale on the platform was $10,868 for No. 6397, named “Uninvited” by Hirst.
“Currency” has also done more than 21,000 ETH in volume on OpenSea with an all-time high sale of 51 ETH (about $163,000 at the time of purchase) on Sept. 10, 2021.
