DraftKings Reignmakers | Week 1 Contest Recap
The first ever DraftKings Reignmakers main slate contests wrapped up last night and there’s a substantial amount to learn from the teams at the top of the leaderboards. Surprisingly, only two of the five teams that won the largest contest in each rarity level had Justin Jefferson and his 42.4 points against the Packers, the highest fantasy performance of the day.
This is also odd for Patrick Mahomes, who despite scoring 13 more points than Jalen Hurts, was on only one of those five teams, while Hurts was on three. Due to the inability to play more than one Superstar per team, a large part of the strategy comes down to finding the most upside at the non-Superstar level. On this slate, the stacking duo of Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown successfully fulfilled that criteria.
One of the biggest differences between Reignmakers contests and traditional Daily Fantasy contests is the ownership percentages. Because each player is also an NFT, there is a fixed number of players in circulation and no player can be considered over-owned in contests. At the Core level, most players hovered around 3.5 percent and in the Reignmaker tier, it was around 4-8 percent. What really differentiates Reignmakers from Daily Fantasy is the extensive amount of strategy that takes place in the secondary market, aka the Reignmakers Marketplace.
Here is a look at the winning teams in each tier from the main slate:
CORE - $100K Fiat Frenzy
At the Core level, the 100K Fiat Frenzy with a total of 23,851 entries was won by lpdev who scored 161.52 DraftKings points.
This player had 25 total lineups and finished first, third, and fourth, with another 15 lineups finishing within the top 160. The winning lineup contained a mini game stack of the Eagles/Lions game utilizing a Jalen Hurts-A.J. Brown stack, with a D’Andre Swift bring back.
This was paired with 42.4 points from Justin Jefferson and 36.4 points from Saquon Barkley. If Jalen Hurts was swapped for Carson Wentz and A.J. Brown for Michael Pittman, this lineup would have been the best possible lineup, aka “the nuts."
Surprisingly, among lpdev’s 25 lineups, only two teams had Jalen Hurts. At quarterback, lpdev was most heavy on Joe Burrow and Kyler Murray, rostered with 10 and 7 lineups, respectively. Burrow and Murray were the only two players on the slate to crack four percent ownership in this contest.
RARE - $150K Fiat Frenzy
The winner of the 150K Fiat Frenzy at the Rare level was ahiles16. This contest had 5,479 entries and ahiles16 had just two teams.
This was one of the few winning teams that did not contain Jalen Hurts or A.J. Brown but instead had a big game from Ja’Marr Chase at Superstar and other significant performances from Michael Pittman, D’Andre Swift, and Saquon Barkley.
It’s important to note that ahiles16 did not employ a stack with this team. Stacking in Reignmakers is still optimal but more challenging to deploy as users are limited to the cards they own, whereas in daily fantasy stacking is only constrained by the salary cap.
ELITE - $300K Fiat Frenzy
The winner of the $300k Fiat Frenzy at the Elite level was Carcjl9 who had only one team in this contest. Scoring a total of 154.22 fantasy points, Carcjl9 deployed the Hurts/Brown/Swift game stack to go along with Justin Jefferson and Travis Kelce.
The only thing differentiating this team from the winner of the Core contest was a 1v1 swap from Saquon Barkley to Travis Kelce. This was the second-highest scoring team among all the five big tournaments.
LEGENDARY - $200K Fiat Frenzy
The winner of the $200K Fiat Frenzy at the Legendary level was FantasyGuruDrew who managed to score 153.9 points without the duo of Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown. Instead, he had Patrick Mahomes at Superstar who was stacked with Travis Kelce and rounded this out with Michael Pittman, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Saquon Barkley. In this field of 687, FantasyGuruDrew had just two lineups. His second team finished in 75th place.
REIGNMAKER - $200K "The Alpha"
And finally the winner of the 200K “The Alpha” contest in the Reignmaker tier was Gfunkera86 who had the Hurts/Brown stack to go along with Superstar Davante Adams, Saquon Barkley, and James Conner.
Gfunkera86 had two entries in the contest, the other placing 88th. Because this contest only featured 158 entries, this team was able to win despite a middling performance of 16.5 points from James Conner. This team would have placed 31st in the Core level tournament.
