TylerD's Market Summary

January showed signs of a bull run across multiple sectors of the NFT market, but there are several indicators that the run might be over.

Has the music stopped?

🐻 Have NFTs Flipped to Bear Mode?

Early January was fun.

  • Daily trading volume was coming in at 20,000-30,000 ETH per day.
  • All of the major PFP projects were delivering on roadmap plans or hyping upcoming drops.
  • Art Blocks were hot, fresh off the Friendship Bracelet airdrop, and all of the drops were being botted.
  • Then the art momentum carried into open editions and Memes, which soared in value and popularity.

Gas wars were back and people were setting alarm clocks for mints again. All bull market signs.

But the vibes seem to be shifting now, from bull to bear.

  • Daily trading volume for the past week is down to ~17,000 ETH per day.
  • The PFPs have "shot their shot" and now there is much less to look forward to in the near future (putting Yuga aside).
  • Art Blocks market feels dead, with Squiggles down 25%, Bracelets down 33% and new mints reaching min price on the regular.
  • Memes and open editions are both showing signs of a local blow off top, with the Memes full set down almost 50% from its local high and the editions market seemingly exhausted after a weekend of big-named artists.

There are individual explanations for each of these, but packaged together they do show a trend.

But with the Blur airdrop looming in just two weeks, we might be getting the stimulus needed to keep the music playing.

↩️ Blur Bests OpenSea

In a shocking development yesterday, Blur managed to bypass OpenSea's blocklist by creating a new exchange system on OpenSea's Seaport protocol.

What It Means:

All of the projects which had been effectively blacklisted by OpenSea are now actively trading on Blur (i.e. Sewer Passes, Valhalla, etc.). Blur immediately picked up 10% marketshare on those projects.

Currently Blur has royalties for those projects enabled, but nothing is forcing them to do so. If they desire, they can turn those royalties back to zero.

This battle for marketshare between Blur and OpenSea - it's just beginning.

🚚 What else is moving in NFTs?

A few notable headlines from yesterday:

  • Otherdeeds led the volume board again but fell 3% to 1.77 ETH
  • Doodles saw a spike in volume ahead of the Dooplicator utility launch happening today, with wearables for Doodles 2 will be generated and the Gaia marketplace is going live
  • RTFKT Space Pods are surprisingly stable at 0.45 ETH ahead of the pod burning event going live today
  • end of Sartoshi up 5% to 0.064 after the founder shared details of what the new mint pass mechanics will be, featuring a 1.7% shot to win; first artist is Patrick Amadon

🌎 Around Web3

A few other crypto and Web3 headlines that caught my eye:

  • Sorare has signed a major four-year licensing deal with the Premier League, paying "tens of millions of pounds" for the rights
  • Oh Baby Game announced a $6 million seed round co-led by eGirl Capital and Synergis Capital, along with a plan for a multi-game rollout, starting with "What The Kart."
  • Your neighborhood jeweler, Jared, applied for trademarks for digital diamonds and other metaverse goods
  • Twitter wants to enter the payments business, starting with fiat but with a goal of moving to crypto

🚀 NFT Total Volume

  • Otherdeeds (2,475 ETH, 1.77 ETH Floor)
  • Sewer Pass (854 ETH, 2.4 ETH)
  • MAYC (767 ETH, 14.8 ETH)
  • BAKC (650 ETH, 7.6 ETH)
  • Doodles (627 ETH, 6.6 ETH)

📈 NFT Floor Price Increase

  • DenDekaDen (72%, 1.5 ETH Floor)
  • Kanpai Pandas (20%, 2.1 ETH)
  • ZenChests (18%, 0.59 ETH)
  • mfers (15%, 1.43 ETH)
  • Digi Villains (13%, 0.43 ETH)

🗓 Upcoming NFT Mints and Reveals

Gradis is the new mint of the day.

Their combination of using a game to win allowlist spots, coupled with 200 XCOPY-designed NFTs in the mix, will generate solid demand for its 0.05 ETH mint price. And they will likely carry a premium into reveal.

The Dooplicator activation is the wildcard today, as there could be a scramble to mint (and acquire) the very first wearables generated on Flow. Definitely one to watch.

  • Gradis (9:00 a.m. ET)
  • Toshies - reveal (10:00 a.m. ET)
  • Shellz Orb (3:00 p.m. ET)
  • Doodles Dooplicator Activtation (TBD)
  • Kubz - crafting opens (TBD)

TylerD's Market Summary

Artist Ness Graphics ran an open edition on Saturday afternoon and sold $2.2M worth of art in just 1 hour and 9 minutes.

Is this a top sign for the open edition bull market?

🔥 Open Edition SZN Heats Up

The trend in the digital art market since Christmas has been open editions, which started as free gifts for collectors and have gradually seen their prices increase over the past few weeks as bigger name artists throw their hat in the mix.

Saturday may have been the culmination, as huge artists in Ness Graphics, Dan Giuz and Terrell Jones all launched open editions (at 0.069 ETH to 0.15 ETH price points).

Ness was likely the most hyped of them all and did not disappoint. The 3D animation artist pushed the "live" button at 4:20 pm ET on Saturday (for the culture) and sold 20,357 editions in 69 minutes.

It netted over 1,400 ETH for the artist and $2.2M, but soon started trading below the 0.069 ETH mint price within a few hours of the mint.

That did not stop Dan Giuz fans from minting though, as Dan closed 9,152 mints on his "A Breath of Fresh Air" on Sunday morning, grossing over $1M. Dan's also traded below cost almost immediately after the mint closed but has settled at 0.07 ETH.

Terrell Jones had a bit less success at his 0.15 ETH price point, potentiallly due to market exhaustion, selling just 223 editions at 0.15 ETH on Sunday (floor now at 0.125 ETH).

With other major artists like Mad Dog Jones set to launch more open editions this week, many are calling "top" and comparing this run to the Nifty Gateway bubble in spring 2021.

Have we topped? We'll find out soon.

☑️ Major Open Edition Wins

While neither of those hyped open edition mints on Saturday turned out to be major trading wins (shocker), there were some huge success stories on the weekend.

  • Japanese NFT founder and influencer Ikehaya launched a free mint Genesis pass as an open edition, cut the supply at 6,000 after a few minutes, and the pass soared to 0.3 ETH in over night trading
  • Checks by Jack Butcher hit a peak floor of 0.7 ETH on Sunday, settling at 0.6 ETH but still up 160% on the week ahead of pending burns coming soon
  • Des Lucrece's Proceed w/ Caution full set is up nearly 50% to 6.4 ETH after the artist shared he wants this project to be his "logo" and rumors swirl of a full set becoming a mint pass
  • And Jeremy Booth's "Boots" soared 190% to 0.08 ETH on the week after Jeremy announced the Boots would be the access pass to his upcoming limited-edition work

🚚 What else is moving in NFTs?

While it was a slower weekend outside of open editions, there were a few notable stories:

  • Otherdeeds led the volume board and jumped 36% to 1.82 ETH seemingly out of nowhere
  • Sewer Passes consolidated at the 2.5 ETH level though a new high score has been registered over 800,000 points
  • Porsche NFTs stabilized at 2.35 ETH after an incredibly volatile week
  • Trump Digital Trading Cards closed the week up 26% to 0.4 ETH on continued speculation of the ex-president's pending return to social media

🌎 Around Web3

A few other crypto and Web3 headlines that caught my eye:

  • Crypto rallied on Sunday and seemed coiled to leg up before falling off this morning; ETH had climbed over $1,650, now at $1,590, and BTC holds at $23,200
  • Yuga co-founder Gordon Goner shared that he will be taking a leave of absence from the company for health reasons after announcing he has congestive heart failure; he will be staying on in an advisory capacity on the board
  • PROOF revealed the artists behind Grails III on Friday in a widely acclaimed reveal session, unveiling big names like Matt Kane, ACK, Seneca, 0xTjo and more
  • The California DMV is working with Tezos to digitize car titles for California drivers, working to finalize a full replication of the state's title data on the blockchain within the next three months

🚀 NFT Total Volume

  • Otherdeeds (1,692 ETH, 1.81 ETH Floor)
  • Sewer Pass (991 ETH, 2.5 ETH)
  • MAYC (989 ETH, 14.8 ETH)
  • BAYC (958 ETH, 69.1 ETH)
  • CyptoPunks (820 ETH, 66 ETH)

📈 NFT Floor Price Increase

  • Carsonated Fakes (74%, 3.4 ETH Floor)
  • Milady (25%, 1.45 ETH)
  • Friendship Bracelets (18%, 0.39 ETH)
  • Mutant Hound Collars (17%, 0.75 ETH)
  • Valhalla (10%, 0.81 ETH)

🗓 Upcoming NFT Mints and Reveals

Today is likely a slower day to start the week, especially with some uncertainty in equities and crypto with the pending FOMC meetings happening on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Meme card will be the highlight of the morning, though that market has certaily cooled off from last week's highs.

Art Blocks is interesting at just 50 supply, but with a 0.3 ETH min price, it will not be cheap - and Art Blocks liquidity levels are abysmal right now.

And the open edition meta continues today with Mad Dog Jones, who is rumored to have several tricks up his sleeve. This is the wildcard of the day.

  • Memes by 6529 (11:00 a.m. ET)
  • Art Blocks Presents: Libra by Cooper Jamieson (1:00 p.m. ET)
  • Mad Dog Jones open edition (4:00 p.m. ET)

TylerD's Market Summary

Major players in Amazon, Fidelity, and Nike are all making major moves in crypto and Web3.

Does this mean mainstream adoption is around the corner? Let's dive in.

📝 Amazon, Fidelity, and Nike's Big Plans for Web3

Let's start with the giant - Amazon.

Amazon is planning to launch a “digital assets enterprise” in the next few months, according to an anonymous source.

The Amazon digital asses focus will center on blockchain-based gaming that rewards players with NFTs. And while not formally shared, the rumor mill is speculating that Polygon will be their blockchain of choice ($MATIC spiked 8% yesterday).

What do Amazon NFTs actually mean?

  • Credibility for one, along with mass outreach.
  • While not many specifics are yet known on what Amazon is doing, the initiative alone gives credence to the space.
  • And given Amazon's universal approval rating, their program could be the fastest path to mainstream adoption.

Fidelity had arguably bigger news yesterday, with their Bitcoin and Ethereum early access list going live.

Fidelity is an absolute mammoth in the investment space with $9.9T in assets under management (as of Oct. 2022).

What does Fidelity entering retail crypto mean?

  • With trust in exchanges at all-time lows, and hacks happening weekly, there will be a returned focus on crypto (and eventually NFT) custody services.
  • And now trusted giants like Fidelity are here to help solve those security concerns.
  • This also unlocks easier crypto trading for millions of people who already use Fidelity.

Then there's Nike.

Nike's Web3 program ".SWOOSH" is not new but seems to be picking up steam.

Nike is executing a grass-roots, community-building strategy revolving around design contests for first-gen Nike digital shoes in their "YourForce1" challenge.

It's a brilliant way to engage their fans and get them involved in the technology and building process, versus simply selling to their customers.

Some likely fallout? It's bad for RTFKT and its NFTs. The primary bull case for RTFKT, CloneX, and that ecosystem over the past year has been "It's Nike." Well, Nike has their own programs now and seems to be much more focused there than on repping RTFKT.

🙈 What else is happening in NFTs?

I'll keep it brief today, as the NFT market was fairly slow yesterday.

  • DigiDaigaku launched the free claim for the Villains, their newest 10k PFP collection. Digi Genesis and Hero holders, along with allowlist members, are eligible to mint. The NFTs opened at a 0.45 ETH floor.
  • Doodles shared new utility for the Dooplicators and how they'll create wearables for Doodles 2, but the market did not care as the Doops fell 6 percent to 1.15 ETH (Doodles -3% to 6.8 ETH).
  • Sewer Passes led volume with over 2,000 ETH traded and reached a 3 ETH floor. $APE is also surging, up 5 percent to $6.35.
  • Porsche fell from grace, down to 2 ETH (-26%).
  • And yesterday's Meme card by Dirty Robot (Renga artist) holds a 2 ETH floor after its debut, though most Meme cards are in full re-trace mode after last weekend's run-up.

🌎 Around Web3

A few other crypto and Web3 headlines that caught my eye:

  • Crypto stalled Thursday with ETH at $1,580 (-1.6%), BTC at $23k (even), though $MATIC was a winner up to $1.08 (+9%)
  • Cool Cats are traveling to a new dimension, according to a cryptic new teaser
  • The next Art Blocks Curated project has been shared, "WaVyScApE" from Holger Lippman which will be just 315 supply
  • Starbucks NFTs are selling for over $1,000 on Nifty Gateway as more traders speculate on the value of their genesis holiday collection

🚀 NFT Total Volume

  • Sewer Pass (2,099 ETH, 3.04 ETH Floor)
  • MAYC (1,250 ETH, 14.5 ETH)
  • Otherdeeds (872 ETH, 1.59 ETH)
  • Doodles (762 ETH, 6.79 ETH)
  • BAYC (748 ETH, 69.5 ETH)

📈 NFT Floor Price Increase

  • 0n1 Force (17%, 0.84 ETH Floor)
  • Cool Cats (15%, 2.3 ETH)
  • Sewer Passes (14%, 3.04 ETH)
  • Digi Super Villain Potion (14%, 1.96 ETH)
  • Grails III (7%, 3.2 ETH Floor)

🗓 Upcoming NFT Mints and Reveals

There are several major events today.

The Meme card will be a highlight of the morning, with Tryone's 1,420 supply card likely opening in the 0.8-1 ETH range.

PROOF is doing its reveal event for the Grails III, which always leads to some scrambling and early volume once the big-named artists are shared.

Then Josh Brobowsky's membership passes Skybrook launch, which seems to be highly anticipated.

Whichever project can catch attention and momentum should have some room to run this weekend.

  • Memes by 6529 (11:00 a.m. ET)
  • Art Blocks Presents: Such A Lovely Time by petitsapin (1:00 p.m. ET)
  • PROOF Grails III reveal (TBD)
  • Skybrook (TBD)
