Azuki Addresses Elementals Mint Mishap
Logan Hitchcock

Azuki co-founder, locationtba, acknowledged and took responsibility for the mishandling of the recent Azuki Elementals mint, citing issues with presale timing and website hosting capacity.

The Deets

  • Azuki admitted to underestimating the time needed for the presale phases.
  • Technical issues arose due to an unexpectedly high load on the hosting platform, Vercel.
  • Approximately 7,600 Elementals were minted by Azukis, with the rest minted during the BEANZ presale.
  • Azuki's management assures that they are learning from the experience and promises an improved reveal experience.

The Bulk

In a candid admission, locationtba acknowledged significant shortcomings in the Azuki Elementals mint, expressing regret for underestimating the time required for the presale phases, a decision that ultimately led to a chaotic and unsatisfactory user experience.

This issue was further complicated by the capacity limits of the website's hosting platform, Vercel. Despite coordinating with Vercel prior to the mint to ensure they could handle the expected load, the actual demand significantly exceeded their estimates, leading to the website being rate-limited.

❗️Why It Matters

In the most anticipated event of the year, one that pulled nearly $40 million in liqudity from the NFT ecosystem, it's a tough pill to swallow for users to have run into "predictable" issues.

We always strive to put the community first, but unfortunately we dropped the ball... I take personal responsibility for what happened, and should have lengthened the presale windows.locationtba

🧐 It Doesn't End There

The community was also quick to jump on Azuki about the Elementals reveal, which produced images that were near-identical to NFTs from the original Azuki collection.
