Morning Minute | Larry Fink Calls for $700,000 Bitcoin
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

📈 Larry Fink Outlines Case for $700k Bitcoin

The first Crypto President is now in the White House.

And the bankers are starting to push Bitcoin - and hard.

What Happened?

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink discussed Bitcoin’s potential, suggesting its price could surge to $700,000 with continued global adoption.

Fink shared insights alongside Peng Xiao, CEO of AI company G42, framing Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and global instability.

He also revealed discussions with sovereign wealth funds considering Bitcoin allocations of 2-5%, as those types of allocations are what could drive Bitcoin to these high 6-figure levels.

Also notable from the discussion, Peng Xiao called crypto "the currency of AI" and went on to say how soon everyone will have AI agents doing financial transactions for them, and that the traditional finance system won't be capable of handling it as well as blockchains.

What Are They Saying

  • Fink described Bitcoin as a “currency of fear,” going on to say “But that’s OK. If you’re frightened of the debasement of your currency, or the economic or political stability of your country, you can have an international-based instrument called Bitcoin that can overcome those local fears."
  • He highlighted Bitcoin’s growing role in institutional investment, citing its appeal to sovereign wealth funds and its status as a hedge against traditional financial risks.
  • Commenting on a 2% to 5% standard portfolio allocation, he said "If everybody adopted that conversation,” he said, “it would be $500,000, $600,000, $700,000 for Bitcoin.”

Why It Matters

Retail isn't listening to CT.

They probably aren't listening much to Michael Saylor.

But when Larry Fink starts talking, more people listen.

Fink’s endorsement, coupled with BlackRock’s success in Bitcoin ETFs, is a huge signal for the growing legitimacy of Bitcoin as a mainstream financial instrument.

And putting a strategic reserve aside, one of the primary bull cases for Bitcoin's continued growth from its $100k level is the 2-5% portfolio allocation and infinite 401k TWAP.

That type of allocation feels like it could very well happen, and maybe soon.

It''s bullish for Bitcoin, and the broader crypto space.

Morning Minute | Larry Fink Calls for $700,000 Bitcoin
Morning Minute | Trump Follows Through on Crypto Promises
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

🇺🇸 Trump's Crypto Promises Kept

Many wanted to believe Trump's crypto campaign promises ahead of his election.

But there was always some level of doubt, until the deeds were officially done.

And hard to blame, given the crypto industry has been choked by the Biden admin for the prior 4 years.

Now Trump has stopped that choking within 1 day of becoming President.

What Happened?

Two key things have happened over the past day, signaling Trump's plans to keep his crypto promises.

Yesterday he gave a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, who was convicted back in 2013 for his ties to Silk Road.

For those unfamiliar, "Free Ross" has been a rallying cry for the crypto cohort for several years, and Trump promised to free him live at Bitcoin Nashville.

Promises made, promises kept.

The other key development from yesterday was out of the SEC.

On Monday, Trump appointed Mark Uyeda as interim chair following Gary Gensler's resignation. Mark is acting fast.

Yesterday the SEC set up a new crypto task force spearheaded by cyprto-friendly Hester Pierce. The task force is aimed at developing a clear regulatory framework for crypto.

This is exactly what we wanted, and it's actually happening.

What Are They Saying?

The SEC commented on the new task force:

"To date, the SEC has relied primarily on enforcement actions to regulate crypto retroactively and reactively, often adopting novel and untested legal interpretations along the way. Clarity regarding who must register, and practical solutions for those seeking to register, have been elusive."

"The result has been confusion about what is legal, which creates an environment hostile to innovation and conducive to fraud. The SEC can do better."

Coinbase CLO Paul Grewal commented on the SEC task force: "Nature is healing."

Why It Matters

First, we now have clear signal that Trump plans to follow through with his campaign promises.

That primarily means a crypto-friendly environment in the United States, welcoming builders, banks and more users to get involved in what is likely to be a more regulatory-friendly environment.

It also means that Strategic Reserve is more likely (a topic for longer discussion).

The impact is already being seen.

Yesterday Crypto dot com relaunched its US exchange, citing regulatory optimism.

Major change, one day in.

Trump is a polarizing President for sure, but from a crypto-specific lens, it's becoming clearer than ever -

He is the Crypto President.

Morning Minute | Trump Follows Through on Crypto Promises
Morning Minute | Trump's WLF Buys Over $100M of BTC, ETH & Other Crypto
Tyler Warner

TylerD's Market Summary

💰 WLF Buys $47M of Bitcoin on Inauguration Day

Eric Trump teased a big announcement for Monday.

Many speculated on a potential strategic reserve announcement (no), or a memecoin launch (also no).

But then they delivered with what was likely about as bullish of an announcement as one could hope for.

What Happened?

World Liberty Financial, a DeFi platform linked to President Donald Trump, made headlines by adding $47 million in Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) to its treasury during his inauguration.

The DeFi platform acquired 439 WBTC through 10 transactions, swapping stablecoins worth $47 million.

This move makes Bitcoin the platform's third-largest holding, after Ethereum and USDC.

Over two days, World Liberty Financial added nearly $100 million in crypto assets, including $47M of Ethereum, and $4.7M of others including AAVE, LINK, TRX and ENA.

The purchases coincide with its public token sale which just completed on the back of the TRUMP memecoin launch, and the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th U.S. president.

What Are They Saying?

Donald Trump Jr. commented on the acquisitions: "To commemorate the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States, $WLFI is proud to announce the following strategic purchases today: $47,000,000 ETH $47,000,000 wBTC $4,700,000 Aave $4,700,000 LINK $4,700,000 TRX $4,700,000 ENA Excited for the future ahead!"

In a prior statement, World Liberty Financial described the acquisitions as part of “regular treasury management,” adding, “We’re making routine movements of our crypto holdings as part of regular treasury management, and payment of fees and expenses and to address working capital requirements.”

Why It Matters

Politics and crypto are more intertwined than ever.

Whether that's a net positive or negative is a longer discussion.

But for the immediate future, it has to be seen as a positive.

Trump is hailed as the first pro-crypto president, and while no crypto executive orders were signed on day one, some are still expected for this week.

But pre-announcement, his family's protocol is stacking crypto majors.

At a minimum, this would make one think that crypto isn't going away anytime soon. It likely became a "safer" bet than ever before.

And they just laid out a playbook of what tokens to buy, if someone starting out had no clue.

The speculator in me also thinks they are telegraphing a potential reserve announcement coming as soon as this week, featuring Bitcoin and even Ethereum.

Jury still out on that one, but we will find out soon enough.

Morning Minute | Trump's WLF Buys Over $100M of BTC, ETH & Other Crypto
Morning Minute | Phantom Wallet Raises at $3B Valuation
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

💰 Phantom Wallet Raises $150M at $3B Valuation

Trump is still 3 days from taking office.

And already, money is pouring into crypto.

Not just the tokens (which are up nicely on the day), but also, in fundraising rounds for one of crypto's biggest onchain players.

What Happened?

Phantom Wallet secured a massive $150M Series C round, pushing its valuation to $3 billion.

The funding round was led by Sequoia Capital and Paradigm, with participation from a16z and Variant.

The Solana-native company boasts 15 million monthly active users and $25 billion in self-custody assets.

What Are They Saying?

Co-founder and CEO Brandon Millman commented on the raise and their success: "The wallet’s rise in popularity shows that there’s a 'broader trend' in which more people are buying crypto directly with their digital wallets instead of using Coinbase Global Inc.’s exchange and other centralized platforms."

Regarding how to use the funds: "With these new resources, we plan on making bigger bets to accelerate crypto adoption and become the world’s biggest and most-trusted consumer finance platform."

Why It Matters

Phantom's raise is one of the single biggest fundraises for crypto-native companies in years.

This is a very positive sign for the future.

It also shows that crypto companies can raise capital without turning to token launches (Phantom doesn't have a token and likely won't at least for the near future).

This provides signal to other teams looking to build companies here in the US - the investment doors are back open.

Let the crypto fundraising race begin...

Morning Minute | Phantom Wallet Raises at $3B Valuation
Morning Minute | Trump's Crypto Impact Strengthens
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

🇺🇸 The Trump Crypto Headlines Pour In

The "First Crypto President" takes office in 4 days.

But the bullish headlines aren't waiting for Monday to start rolling in.

They're already coming, and in batches.

What Happened?

Yesterday had several major announcements with macro crypto impacts, mostly related to Trump's campaign promises.

For a quick list:

So a pause in enforcement actions, a return of $9B in Bitfinex Bitcoin to rightful owners, more states and nations looking at Bitcoin reserves, and a potential "American crypto reserve" featuring Solana and XRP.

That's a good quarter of headlines - packed into a single day.

Why It Matters

There's a lot to unpack here.

Starting with the SEC item, pausing enforcement actions sets the tone that the Trump SEC is going to re-evaluate everything and likely let businesses operate with less stringent oversight (and hopefully put in rules of the game).

The states going after Bitcoin reserves shows us that even if Trump can't get that done at the national level, we may see at least some Red states get it done. And clearly just the chance that the US may implement has perked the attention of other nations.

Then there's the American crypto reserve item.

This is new, but not a major surprise to anyone following XRP price action. XRP has been surging as of late and the clear top mover among crypto majors. It's up 17% on a day where ETH is up 5%, and now barely more than a 2x away from flipping ETH and becoming the #2 crypto asset.

That is a big deal.

And it's a big deal for Solana as well, which already has a big year ahead with Firedancer, reduced inflation, continued builder momentum and potential ETFs.

There is a scenario on the table where both XRP and Solana flip ETH in 2025. Even if they don't flip, they have plenty of room to run.

Buckle up, 2025 is set to become more bullish than you can even imagine...

🚚 What is happening in NFTs?

Here is the list of other notable headlines from the day in NFTs:

Morning Minute | Trump's Crypto Impact Strengthens
Morning Minute | Solana and XRP ETFs 'Could Attract Billions'
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

📈 JP Morgan Is Bullish on SOL and XRP ETFs

The Bitcoin ETFs have been a smash success, breaking multiple ETF records and attracting over $35B in inflows in their first year.

The ETH ETFs have been picking up steam lately as well, now over $2.4B in net inflows.

And now big bank analysts are setting their sights on the next batch of ETFs.

Notably, XRP is up 18% on the week to $2.77 ($158B in market cap) and is by far the top mover amongst crypto majors, while Solana is down 4.5% on the week.

What Happened?

JP Morgan analysts have predicted that Solana and XRP ETFs could attract billions in investment.

In a recent report, JP Morgan analysts stated that upcoming Solana and XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could bring in substantial investments—estimated at $4–$8 billion for Solana and $3–$6 billion for XRP.

They went on to acknowledge that while these are strong inflows, they fall far short of Bitcoin (obviously).

However, these figures fall far short of Bitcoin ETFs, which saw record-breaking success with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust amassing $50 billion in its first year.

What Are They Saying?

Regarding how the SOL and XRP ETFs would compare to ETH and BTC: "Regardless of an exact number, we think [Solana and XRP ETFs] will match if not fall below Ethereum ETP expectations given their altcoin status and, similarly, that Bitcoin remains the favored crypto token to trade and own both in spot and ETP form."

They went on to state that the "episodic nature of the crypto market is driven by varying investor sentiment and trendy new coins that may capture incremental attention for a limited time."

Why It Matters

More ETFs are coming, and it seems Solana and XRP are next up.

Solana has plenty of tailwinds from its onchain ecosystem growth, as it generates fees on par with Ethereum, dominates memecoins, leads in the AI race, and expands in DeFi, DePIN and more.

Meanwhile, XRP clearly has a retail army behind it who just love buying the token.

Each will benefit from an ETF, and both of those ETFs will have retail demand.

The real wild card here is Trump and his idea of making American-made crypto tax free.

Guess what? XRP is American made.

If XRP becomes the top tax free crypto token, and it has a shiny new ETF, it could really explode upwards.

There's even a scenario on the table where XRP flips ETH this cycle.

We will certainly see, and in the meantime - bring on the ETFs...

Morning Minute | Solana and XRP ETFs 'Could Attract Billions'
Morning Minute | Trump's Day 1 Pro-Crypto Agenda
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

🇺🇸 Trump Set to Become 'The First Crypto President' from Day 1

We knew that Trump was supposed to be good for crypto (see Bitcoin run from $65k to $100k).

But the billion-dollar question headed into this administration has been - will he follow through?

Well, we have our first glimpse into his Day 1 actions, and it's looking like a resounding Yes.

What Happened?
President-elect
Donald Trump is set to sign executive orders on his first day in office to reshape crypto policy.

He will start by creating a presidential crypto council of industry leaders and is then expected to dive into a series of actions.

Those proposed actions include:

  • Establishing a joint crypto working group between the CFTC and SEC
  • Addressing de-banking issues for American crypto companies
  • Repealing a crypto accounting policy that burdens banks (SAB 121)
  • Coordinating international crypto innovation through the State Department, and
  • Potentially establishing Bitcoin as a national reserve asset

Bo Hines, tapped to lead Trump’s crypto council, has been soliciting policy proposals from crypto leaders in Washington

What Are They Saying

Trump's transition team emphasized crypto as a top priority, working closely with industry leaders to develop supportive policies.

A source went as far to say "The Trump team has made it very clear that this is a priority."

Brian Hughes, a spokesperson for Trump’s team, highlighted plans to position the U.S. as a leader in the crypto sector, saying: "President Trump will deliver on his promise to encourage American leadership in crypto."

It looks like he's planning to deliver.

Why It Matters

A pro-crypto President of the United States, executing on his campaign promises from day 1 and aiming to foster crypto innovation in the US and aboard, is simply not priced in.

This is literally a new paradigm.

The best we've had in the White House is agnosticism, and at worst, direct attacks (see the last 4 years under Biden / Warren).

The attacks are coming to an end.

Crypto innovation will be fostered in America.

That means brighter minds can build in this area, who may have been on the sidelines. That means foreign-based companies can migrate here and recruit domestic talent.

And that doesn't even scratch the surface of the impact a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve would have.

Many have called that unlikely, but if Trump fulfills his other promises on day 1 in office, the likelihood of the Strategic Reserve has to go up (in fact the Polymarket odds are up to 36% that he'll create it in the first 100 days).

The First Crypto President is about to take office.

Pack your bags accordingly...

 Morning Minute | Trump's Day 1 Pro-Crypto Agenda
Morning Minute | Biden Admin Targets Crypto Wallet Makers in Final Push
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

Biden Admin Targets Crypto Wallet Makers in Final Push

The anti-crypto Biden admin has a week left in power.

And it appears they are going out swinging.

What Happened?

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), led by Biden appointee Rohit Chopra, proposed a new rule to classify crypto wallet providers like MetaMask and Phantom as financial institutions.

The impact is that this change would make them liable for fraudulent or erroneous transactions conducted by their users.

For example, if user Joe Smith clicks a phishing link and loses $5,000 from his MetaMask wallet, under this new rule, MetaMask could be liable.

The proposal is part of Chopra's final efforts before the Biden administration ends.

The move is viewed by some as consistent with Senator Elizabeth Warren's long-standing skepticism of crypto, as Chopra is closely aligned with her policies.

What Are They Saying?

Chopra commented on the new rule: "When people pay for their family expenses using new forms of digital payments, they must be confident that their transactions are not tainted by harmful surveillance or errors."

But critics reacted strongly, likening the rule to holding hammer manufacturers accountable for misuse of their tools.

MetaMask's Bill Hughes sarcastically mocked the proposal: "Hacked because you… believed that fashion model in Malaysia needed 5,000 bucks to fly to see you? Don’t worry your wallet might have to cover it"

Joey Krug of Founders Fund criticized its impracticality, saying "This is like holding a hammer manufacturer (who in many cases gives hammers away for free) liable for the misuse of a hammer."

Why It Matters

This policy could set a significant precedent, but its future seems doubtful.

The incoming Trump administration, known for its pro-crypto stance, is expected to oppose such regulations.

Additionally, a 2020 Supreme Court ruling allows the president to dismiss the CFPB director without cause, making Chopra's efforts unlikely to last.

For now, crypto wallet providers appear safe from immediate regulatory burdens.

Morning Minute | Biden Admin Targets Crypto Wallet Makers in Final Push
Morning Minute | Bitcoin Rebounds Despite Silk Road FUD
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

 Bitcoin Rebounds, Lifting Broader Crypto

The 2.5 day period from Tuesday to Thursday afternoon were rough for many on Crypto Twitter.

Bitcoin fell from a $102,000 local high to $92,000, as calls for "the cycle top is in" getting louder all while memecoins and AI leaders fell 30-50%.

But the pain may be over, at least temporarily.

What Happened?

Bitcoin briefly fell below $92,000 yesterday evening before marching back up overnight to $95,000.

The rebound comes a day after the Silk Road news has had time to settle and digest, and it has become less certain that those specific coins will be sold ahead of Trump's inauguration.

With the Silk Road news seemingly shaken off, Bitcoin has rebounded and has pulled broader sectors up with it.

  • The AI sector added $2B in market cap off of its local low overnight, with leaders piling in 10-30% gains
  • Memecoins rebounded 1-5%
  • And adults are starting to rebound as well

The question now becomes - is the local low behind us, or is more pain in store?

Looking Ahead

We may get that answer here this morning.

A key labor report comes out this morning with non-farm payrolls along with a consumer sentiment report.

It seems a softer jobs report is what crypto traders are rooting for for a near term spike. If jobs come in strong, or any other surprises, the crypto pain very well may continue through the inauguration.

We shall find out soon...

Morning Minute | Bitcoin Rebounds Despite Silk Road FUD
Morning Minute | US Government Cleared to Sell $6.5B in Silk Road Bitcoin
Staff Writer

TylerD's Market Summary

🤯 DOJ Clears US Government to Sell Silk Road Bitcoin

The final Bitcoin boogeyman just appeared.

The Silk Road Bitcoin is going up for sale.

Ironically, just 11 days before Trump is set to take office and potentially begin his Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

What Happened?

A federal court in California approved the liquidation of 69,370 Bitcoin ($6.5B), marking the conclusion of a four-year legal battle over the crypto tied to the Silk Road dark web marketplace.

Judge Richard Seeborg denied attempts to block the forfeiture, paving the way for one of the largest government crypto sales in history.

While the ruling clears the legal path, this doesn't guarantee the Bitcoin will be immediately sold.

Though there are questions out there if it indeed has already been sold, and how much.

Many are pointing to the $2B moved to Coinbase in December and speculating it has already been sold.

Why It Matters

We have seen governments sell before.

Back in July, the German government sold 50k seized Bitcoin at an average price of $57,600 raising $2.88B (terrible sales in hindsight).

That selling did drag down the price of Bitcoin for a few weeks, but of course, the price has now soared nearly 100% since then.

So the question is - how much of an impact will this US government selling have? And how much (if any) has already been completed?

What jumps out to me is how little Bitcoin has moved since this news broke.

It's down from ~$95k to $93,500. That's a -1.5% move.

For a headline this big, I would've expected more panic selling. Which makes me believe that perhaps it already happened, and this is what drove the sudden dip from $102k on Monday to $94k.

The other key impact/question here is - will this light a fire under Trump to back Bitcoin even more?

This feels like a direct slap in the face to him, who said "Never sell your Bitcoin" back in August. The Bitcoin Strategic Reserve plan was built around first keeping the Silk Road Bitcoin and then maybe buying on the open market.

If the Silk Road Bitcoin is gone, the only choices are to 1) abandon the plan or 2) market buy Bitcoin.

Option 1 would likely hurt prices in the short term. Option 2 would lead to euphoria.

We will soon find out which path he takes. And the federal courts may have just forced his hand...
