Loot NFT Overview

Project Information

Loot is a collection of 8,000 text-based bags of adventurer gear, originally released by Dom Hofmann. Confusing to many, each Loot bag is a black canvas and eight lines of white text. Each line of text is an item for an adventurer. All original Loot bags contain eight items: a piece for an adventurer's chest, foot, hand, head, neck, ring, waist, and weapon.

At release, anyone could claim Loot for free, requiring just the gas fee to claim each bag. All bags were claimed in under 4 hours.

At the core, the value and meaning of Loot Bags (for Adventurers) are intentionally limited and ambiguous. A Loot Bag is merely a foundation, for which hopefully many, derivative projects grow. As more and more pieces are added, an entire Loot universe can be created and enjoyed.

Community participants quickly rallied to build Loot derivative projects, adding to the Loot ecosystem.

Here are some of the most popular derivative projects to date (full list can be found on lootproject.com):

  • Realms (for Adventurers) - Maps of regions, cities, rivers, and topographies for the Loot ecosystem.
  • Characters (for Adventurers) - Characters for the Loot Bags
  • Adventure Gold ($AGLD) - a Loot DAO governance and gold token
  • Extension Loot (for Adventurers) - an extension set of Loot Bags, providing a secondary means of entry for participants wishing to enter the Loot ecosystem

As price escalation removed the ability for a large batch of users to participate in the Loot ecosystem, Dom Hoffman later released “Synthetic Loot.” Through Synthetic Loot, all Ethereum addresses have access to virtual Loot that developers can integrate into the Loot projects they build moving forward.
