World of Women Offsets Entire Historical Carbon Footprint

World of Women Offsets Entire Historical Carbon Footprint
In this post

World of Women (WoW), an NFT project committed to celebrating inclusivity and equal opportunity in the web3 space, has officially offset its entire historical footprint, verified by the Plan Vivo Foundation.

"Our Plan Vivo Foundation-certified carbon offsetting captures the full energy consumption on the smart contracts for both the genesis WoW drop and the follow-up World of Women Galaxy (WoWG) collection," the team wrote on Twitter. "In addition to carbon offsets, we are dedicating a significant portion of our funds from both primary and secondary sales from WoWG into climate justice solution which you'll hear more about in the coming weeks ahead."

The certification says that World of Women has neutralized 2,156 tonnes of CO2. The teams methodology to offset its carbon usage can be seen via Code Green here.

The team's offsets will be directed toward Trees for Global Benefits, a Ugandan organization that seeks to increase carbon sequestration, encourage sustainable land-use practices, and provide farmers with performance-based payments.

There have been (perhaps unfounded) questions about the environmental sustainability of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether this year. Ethereum is soon expected to move from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, which is more energy effecient.
