Nike x RTFKT Forging Event Has Started
RTFKT's forging event has started! Holders can forge limited edition digital Air Force 1 sneakers, including two styles designed by Takashi Murakami.
The Deets
- Forging Event: April 24-May 8
- NFT holders can redeem limited made-to-order physical sneakers
- Sneakers to ship in Q4 2023
- Exhibition at GEISAI on April 30, 2023
The Details
Starting today until May 8, 2023, holders of pre-forged RTFKT NFTs can participate in an exclusive Forging event, redeeming their NFTs for limited made-to-order physical sneakers designed by renowned artist Takashi Murakami. The sneakers will be produced with shipping expected in Q4 of 2023.
To participate in the Forging event, collectors must hold an eligible RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 digital collectible. If you do not own one, you can purchase a pair on OpenSea or other secondary marketplaces. During the event, the pre-Forging ERC-1155 token will be burnt, and collectors will receive a new ERC-721 token, which will be needed to link to the physical sneakers via the RTFKT World Merging (WM) NFC Chip.
In collaboration with Takashi Murakami, RTFKT will also host an exhibition at GEISAI, an artistic event in Tokyo, Japan, on April 30, 2023. The exhibition will showcase Murakami's first-ever Air Force 1 sneakers, RTFKT's Clone X, and planned Animus work.
❗Why It Matters
Holders have been waiting a VERY LONG time for the forging event to kick off and the time has finally come. In addition, seeing the main parent company, Nike, getting more involved as well by retweeting and taking over Tokyo with its massive AR billboard has brought back some hype around the event.
By offering limited edition sneakers through a Forging event, the project demonstrates the potential for NFTs to serve as a bridge between digital and physical assets, while also bringing more attention to the NFT ecosystem.
