NEW DraftKings Reignmakers PGA Showdown- PLAY for 25K to first on SUNDAY!
Jason Rouslin

This weekend marks a significant event in the DraftKings Reignmakers fantasy game, with seven first-place prizes exceeding $15,000 across three sports. It represents a milestone in the relatively short history of this innovative fantasy format, which now includes the exciting PGA showdown format. In this particular contest, participants have an opportunity to claim the top prize of $25,000 in the Sunday showdown event. If you're new to this format, I'll guide you through a concise introduction and highlight a few players to watch on Saturday as the third round unfolds.

Reignmakers PGA Showdown Introduction

First, let's go over some fundamental aspects of the new Reignmakers format. If you're familiar with the traditional or Rainmakers PGA Tour games, you'll notice that the lineup format remains consistent: one captain and four golfers, making a total of five, which aligns with the showdown format. In terms of fantasy points, the scoring system mirrors the one used in PGA DFS showdown, encompassing finishing points for the final round contest. Here's a quick reminder of the scoring attributes:

Now, the primary distinction between Reignmakers PGA and traditional PGA DFS lies in the absence of lineup restrictions, at least in their showdown format. All cards share the same rarity tier, and the game is played within that tier or at the RARE tier, for seasoned Reignmaker players. This means that you can freely select the top five golfers on the leaderboard heading into Sunday, a flexibility not typically available in traditional PGA DFS. Below, you'll find the payout table for Sunday's slate:

Sunday Slate Specifics

Now, let's delve into some specifics about this particular showdown slate as we aim to pinpoint a couple of golfers who might climb up the leaderboard today, potentially accumulating more points through their finishing positions in tomorrow's contest. Unsurprisingly, the golfers at the top of the leaderboard this week command significantly higher prices than those at the bottom. For instance, heading into the weekend, Cameron Champ, who leads the standings, has a minimum marketplace price of around $30. In contrast, JJ Spaun, who starts the day nine strokes back at -3, has a floor price of just $11.

Player Focus:

Naturally, with such a substantial-top prize, creating the optimal lineup is of utmost importance. However, it's not the sole path to victory. Players like Spaun, who are near the bottom of the leaderboard, still have the potential to accumulate as many, if not more, points than the leaders. Therefore, one strategy could involve building numerous lineups and adopting a quantity-based approach rather than focusing solely on quality.

As it's only the second week of this format, there is no definitive right or wrong approach. Based on experience with traditional Sunday showdowns in the PGA DFS format, not all golfers in the top five heading into Sunday typically end up in the optimal or winning lineup. Hence, our goal is to identify a couple of golfers who are starting at or near the bottom of today's leaderboard. These players should have the capability to ascend the ranks during the third round and likely see an increase in their marketplace value. Moreover, they should be able to accumulate finishing points by delivering a strong performance in today's third round.

Having already highlighted J.J. Spaun, I will now discuss a few more golfers who are commencing the round from lower positions on the leaderboard. These players have the potential for significant increases in their marketplace value and utility following today's third round. Additionally, I'll provide a brief update on some of the most affordable options accessible in the marketplace as we head into the weekend.

All Golfers Priced under $10 Heading into the Third Round.

  1. Kelly Kraft (-3) $6.99
  2. Brandt Snedeker (-3) $7.25
  3. Ben Taylor (-3) $7.99
  4. Matthias Schwab (-3) $7.99
  5. Michael Kim (-3) $8,50
  6. Doc Redman (-3) $8.59
  7. Hayden Buckley (-4) $8.99
  8. Zac Bliar (-5) $8.99
  9. Carl Yuan (-3) $8.99
  10. Jason Dufner (-5) $9.25
  11. Joel Dahmen (-5) $9.49
  12. Greyson Sigg (-5) $9.25
  13. Tyler Duncan (-5) $9.99
  14. Callum Tarren (-4) $9.99

Now, 14 names seem like a bit much to keep track of, so let’s focus on 5, the amount needed for a lineup.

Matthias Schwab

Austrian golfer Matthias Schwab has faced a challenging season on the PGA Tour, with his tour status in question. However, there is a glimmer of hope as he secured a spot for the weekend by birdieing the last hole, providing a boost of momentum. Notably, Schwab excels with his irons and his putter, a potent combination at a course like TPC Summerlin. He must address his off-the-tee performance, where he has lost nearly 3 strokes over the first two rounds. If he can improve in this aspect while maintaining his strong irons and putting, he could make a significant leap over the weekend.

Michael Kim

Kim demonstrated a promising performance with his irons during round one and followed it up with an impressive display of putting skills in round two. He needs to synchronize both aspects of his game to contend over the weekend. While this marks his first start of the Fall Swing, he has already shown glimpses of good form. Taking a calculated risk on Kim, a highly talented player with a burgeoning social media presence, might be a wise move.

Hayden Buckley

Buckley has maintained his reputation for impressive ball-striking during the first two rounds, accumulating over 0.75 strokes on his approach shots in each of these rounds. However, a troublesome performance on the greens yesterday cost him 2.5 strokes, with over 2 of those occurring on the par-16th hole, where it took him four shots just to reach the green. If we exclude that hole from his performance, he would be sitting at -6 and probably demanding a price 50% higher than his current value of $8.99.

Carl Yuan

Yuan experienced one of his best finishes on the PGA Tour recently, just missing out on a five-man playoff at last week's Sanderson Farms Championship. However, he had a bit of a letdown in Round 1, shooting a four-over 75. Yet, he made a strong recovery with one of the best rounds of the day yesterday, firing a seven-under 64. This resurgence propelled Yuan back into top form and secured him another weekend tee time. Impressively, he gained strokes in all four key performance categories in round 2, providing him with a solid foundation to build upon.

Joel Dahmen

Joel, one of the stars of Netflix’s “Full Swing,” had a challenging year on the PGA Tour. However, he has displayed improved form during the fall season and made another cut this week in Vegas after shooting a six-under 65 in round two. With strong momentum and solid ball-striking statistics through two rounds, his current price tag of $9.49 surprises me.

Slate Breakdown | The Shriners Children's Open
Jason Rouslin

As the PGA TOUR's fall series unfolds, a notable event is The Shriners Children's Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. The city, a global tourist hotspot and home to many TOUR pros, typically draws top-rated players to this tournament.

However, a change in the fall format means players in the top 50 rankings only earn prize money, impacting the event's field. This year, defending champion Tom Kim leads the roster, which includes solid but not elite players. For star power, consider the upcoming ZoZo Championship in Nokishino, Japan.

There, stars like Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, and Hideki Matsuyama will compete in a 78-player, no-cut format. As a result, our focus will shift to highlighting key players for the ZoZo Championship, who will also be pivotal in this week's Shriners Children's Open lineups.

Remaining Fall Scheduler:

  • Shriners Children's Open -- Oct. 12-15
  • Zozo Championship -- Oct. 19-22
  • World Wide Technology Championship -- Nov. 2-5
  • Butterfield Bermuda Championship -- Nov. 9-12
  • RSM Classic -- Nov. 16-19
  • Hero World Challenge -- Dec. 5-8

If you're eager for more PGA TOUR Reignmakers action, DraftKings' new Showdown format is sure to satisfy that craving. For the second consecutive week, DK will host a no-vig contest, selling only the amount of packs available in the prize pool, as they continue to test this new format. It offers a top prize of $25,000 for first place in Sunday's contest and features several intriguing elements at different levels.

The Tournament

A staple of the PGA TOUR's fall series, the Shriners Children's Open is widely recognized as the highlight of the fall lineup. Its allure stems not only from the course itself but also from its location. Last year, the course witnessed one of the highest birdie counts on the TOUR, ranking third in that category.

The Slate

All fall swing events have a $175,000 prize pool broken out across the five rarity tiers. The top prize for this week's standard events is $5,000 at the REIGNMAKER tier.

The Golfers

This week, more than 140 golfers are set to tee off in the tournament. Yet, only about 100 of them will be up for grabs in the DraftKings Reignmakers contests. Notably missing from the selection is top-ranked Ludvig Åberg. A regular on the circuit, Åberg had an impressive showing, narrowly missing the title in a playoff last week. Other notable names competing this week, besides Åberg and Kim, include Cameron Davis, Andrew Putnam, Adam Hadwin, and the previous week's winner, Luke List.

Three-Ball: 3 DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR Targets

We're aiming for a multi-week performance from these three golfers this week. They all seem like strong candidates for this week's lineups and can serve as excellent complementary pieces alongside the stars in next week's ZoZo Championship.

Tom Hoge

Hoge stands out as one of the PGA TOUR's premier iron players. Even with a lukewarm start last week, he ascended the ranks to clinch a spot within the top 15. His past performances at TPC Summerlin speak volumes, finishing in the top 25 in four of his last five outings. A few more commendable finishes in the forthcoming fall series could propel his ranking for the upcoming year. He's also on the roster for next week's event, providing another opportunity to enhance his standing.

J.J. Spaun

Last week, Spaun opted for a strategic rest to gear up for the upcoming two-week stretch. His history at TPC Summerlin is commendable, boasting three top-15 placements in his recent five appearances there. Furthermore, Spaun's current form is noteworthy, having made the cut in five straight tournaments and achieving two top-11 standings in the past 12 weeks. Given these strengths, Spaun is poised to climb the fall FedEx Leaderboard.

Beau Hossler

Upon entering the PGA TOUR, Beau's adept putting skills played a key role in retaining his tour card. Yet, at the recent Sanderson Farms Championship, his putting faltered, causing him to lose more than two strokes on Saturday and stalling his progress. But, if he can address this setback, Beau's off-the-tee game over the last 24 rounds has been commendable, suggesting potential birdie chances this week.

Slate Breakdown | The Ryder Cup
Jason Rouslin

The Ryder Cup is a rare and highly anticipated team golf event that brings together the best golfers from the United States and Europe to compete for the prestigious Ryder Cup trophy. This thrilling spectacle spans three days, during which golfers pair up with one partner for the first two days to face two pairs from the opposing team and finish with a singles affair on Sunday. This year the event takes place in Rome, and the DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR contests lock at 1:30 am E.T.! So be sure to get your lineups in.

While some golf fans may not be accustomed to partner golf, the Ryder Cup generates significant excitement due to its biennial occurrence. In this article, we will break down each of the formats that the golfers will be playing and when they will be playing them. Additionally, we'll explore potential player combinations to help you optimize your portfolio. Speaking of portfolio optimization, if you have a multitude of cards for this week's event, be sure to take advantage of our lineup optimizer tool, now available for both NFL and PGA. You can access it by clicking here.

Before moving on, let's just quickly update where we are in the fall golf schedule.

  • Ryder Cup- Sept. 25-28
  • Sanderson Farms Championship -- Oct. 5-8
  • Shriners Children's Open -- Oct. 12-15
  • Zozo Championship -- Oct. 19-22
  • World Wide Technology Championship -- Nov. 2-5
  • Butterfield Bermuda Championship -- Nov. 9-12
  • RSM Classic -- Nov. 16-19
  • Hero World Challenge- DEC 5-8

The Formats

The Ryder Cup plays host to multiple formats of play.

Foursomes

Let's begin by discussing the foursomes format, which essentially translates to alternate shot. In this format, one golfer from each team takes the first shot, and the partner who didn't hit the first shot will then take the next shot. This alternating pattern continues until the ball is successfully holed out. The team with the lowest score on each hole wins, and the victorious team at the end of the match earns one point for their country or team.

Fourball

The fourball format, often likened to best ball, is likely more familiar to many. In this format, each golfer in the group plays their own ball, and one score from each team is considered for each hole. The lowest score on each hole is the winner. Much like in the foursomes format, the victorious team in a match earns one point for their country or team. In the event of a tie, each team is awarded half a point.

Singles

Lastly, there are the singles matches that take place on Sunday. In this thrilling showdown, all twelve players from each team are individually matched up against a player from the opposing team in a head-to-head competition known as Sunday singles. The winner of each match secures one point for their team, and in the event of a tie, each team is awarded half a point. This day often adds tremendous drama to the Ryder Cup, as it can be a deciding factor in which team takes home the trophy.

Each time a format is used (two times each for the first two) it’s called a “session” and there are five sessions during the event. Thus, a golfer can play a maximum of matches.

The Slate: Reignmakers PGA TOUR

For the Reignmakers slate this week, the top prize is $5,000, available in both the ELITE and REGINMAKER tiers, with a total of $175,000 in prizes up for grabs. The scoring system for this event is identical to Ryder Cup DFS.

The Golfers

Now, let's delve into some analysis. As in normal PGA TOUR events, it's crucial to consider golfers who are likely to play the most holes for their team. Predicting match outcomes can be challenging, but estimating which golfers might participate in these matches is somewhat easier. Here's a breakdown of golfers expected to play:

Expected to Play All 5 Matches:

  • Jon Rahm
  • Viktor Hovland
  • Scottie Scheffler

These golfers have consistently performed well and are injury-free, making them strong contenders to play all five matches. However, Rory McIlroy, while a top player, is dealing with back issues and might sit out one of the matches.

Speculative on 5 Matches:

  • Rory McIlroy
  • Patrick Cantlay
  • Xander Schauffele

Cantlay and Schauffele have been a reliable duo for the USA, and if the team is in a tight spot during the event, they could potentially play all five matches together.

Likely to Play 4 Matches:

  • Tommy Fleetwood
  • Tyrrell Hatton
  • Max Homa
  • Collin Morikawa

These golfers seem, strong candidates, to play at least four matches based on their first session pairings and team dynamics.

As for Sam Burns, his playing time might be influenced by his strong friendship with Scottie Scheffler. If they perform exceptionally well in the morning session, they might be fielded again in the afternoon, which could impact the playing time of other American golfers. Expect the rest of the players like, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, Brian Harman, and Wyndham Clark to all play three matches each.

Lastly, before we leave, a bit of strategy. Partners do receive the same score for each match, so using stacks of known partners for the first session matches could prove vital if the pairs stay together throughout the team portion of the event.

Slate Breakdown | The Ryder Cup
Slate Breakdown | The Tour Championship WIN 50K THIS WEEK!
Jason Rouslin

Here we are! The field has narrowed down to a mere 30 golfers, all geared up to compete at East Lake Country Club for the Tour Championship. This ultimate showdown will not only determine the Tour Champion but also the FedEx Champion. This event also signifies one of the most significant Reignmakers PGA TOUR slates of the year, boasting a payout of over $500,000 in prizes.

The Tournament

A topic that stirs much debate every year during this week is the staggered starting scores for each golfer at the Tour Championship. Based on their performance throughout the season, golfers are assigned starting positions for this tournament. For instance, Scottie Scheffler holds the top spot in the standings, resulting in a starting score of -10. The scores decrease from there, with Viktor Hovland commencing two shots behind at -8, followed by Rory McIlroy at -7 and Jon Rahm at -6. This pattern continues, concluding at Even par, which represents the highest starting score of the week.

The Course

East Lake Country Club marks the third consecutive par 70 course in the playoff series. Stretching across 7,300 yards, the course features intricate and demanding hole designs, offering both difficulty and challenge. However, it also provides a balanced and just examination, allowing for the potential of achieving low scores.

Driving Accuracy and Greens In Regulation %s are projected to be much higher than last week at Olympia fields with fairways hitting an average of about 60% while greens in regulation come in around 70% of the time.

The Slate

As we already mentioned, this slate for Reignmakers is one of the biggest in terms of prizing, with more than $500,000 to be paid out this week alone, and a top prize of $50,000 for the "Playoff" set contest.

Check out these golfers and more on the new Player Profile page by clicking here.

The Golfers

While there are 30 golfers teeing it up here this week, only 28 will be available for selection, as favorites Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth remain on the sidelines for Reignmakers. But the other 28 are most of the best in the world, with only a select few golfers that are considered the world's best, not making it to East Lake this week.

Three-Ball: 3 DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR Targets

Here are three potential options for DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR this week:

Wyndham Clark

Clark has undoubtedly had a breakout and breakthrough season, consistently performing well on leaderboards for the past 18 months. The pinnacle of his achievements was his unexpected triumph at the U.S Open, propelling him into the top 10 of world rankings. Although his game had always harbored the potential for such results, he grappled with his iron play in previous years.

Something has clearly changed, as his iron play has improved significantly, making him a force to be reckoned with. His familiarity with East Lake's setup and his Playoff Set price dropping to around $20 make him an appealing choice. Considering his starting position and an assured spot at the Ryder Cup in a few weeks, Clark should be a priority addition to your "Playoff" Set portfolio this week.

Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood shares many compelling reasons to consider him for your lineup this week, mirroring the arguments for Clark. He's showcasing consistent and impressive golf, and his price tags remain accessible, hovering around $25 for the RARE tier of the Playoff Set.

Additionally, his upcoming participation in the Ryder Cup in Rome adds to his utility over the next two weeks, with the potential for significant earnings this week. All these factors combine to make Fleetwood a worthy contender for your fantasy lineup.

Tyrrell Hatton

There appears to be a consistent thread running through these selections, as Hatton joins the group of Ryder Cup-bound players to consider. Following his disappointing Sunday performance last week, Hatton initially believed his chances of playing this week were slim. However, fortuitous circumstances allowed him to qualify, and he now has a fresh slate to work with.

His recent performance has been impressive, with a gain of more than 15 strokes versus his competitors in the last 13 weeks. With this strong form and a determination to ascend from his tied-for-last starting position, Hatton is a compelling choice for your lineup. His RARE tier Playoff Set cards are going for around $15 as of early this morning.

Slate Breakdown | The Tour Championship WIN 50K THIS WEEK!
Slate Breakdown | The Wyndham Championship
Jason Rouslin

The regular season of the 2023 PGA TOUR is nearing its end, culminating with the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. The tournament serves as a pivotal "event within an event," granting golfers one last shot at accumulating critical FedEx Cup points to guarantee a playoff berth. This year's challenge is more grueling than ever, as only the top 70 golfers will proceed to the playoffs. Prominent golfers such as Adam Scott, Shane Lowry, and Justin Thomas currently sit outside the qualifying zone and are heading to Greensboro for one last shot at postseason qualification. As the stakes rise, anticipate fierce competition for the coveted playoff spots.

DraftKings Reignmakers is capitalizing on the unique playoff format by unveiling a new "Playoffs" set. These player cards spotlight the top 100 golfers in the FedEx Cup rankings following the Open Championship, with a cap of 67 qualifiers due to some golfers already having secured a playoff spot without a card.

Concurrently, there will be a distinct contest held each week of the playoffs, accessible exclusively to the owners of these "Playoffs" set cards. As the playoffs advance, the prize pool for these contests will escalate, peaking at an impressive $50,000 first-place award at the TOUR Championship. This represents the largest Reignmakers PGA TOUR prize for the year.

As the regular season winds down, attention is shifting back to the Wyndham Championship. Keep an eye out for a comprehensive analysis of the "Playoffs" set. Additionally, we'll be examining some of the best values in the Marketplace over the weekend. But for now, let's explore the top values for the forthcoming Wyndham Championship.

The Tournament

For the last 15 years, Greensboro has been the proud host of the Wyndham Championship, providing golf enthusiasts with an exhilarating event as one of the final regular-season FedEx Cup tournaments. While it may not always draw the world's top-ranking players, the added suspense of it being the last opportunity to qualify for the playoffs makes it a highly anticipated event among fans. Given the high stakes, players are driven to give their utmost performance to secure a spot in the playoffs. For Reignmakers participants, the possibility of winning a grand prize of $10,000 adds another layer of excitement, encouraging a close following of the tournament.

The Course

This week's Wyndham Championship takes place at the picturesque Sedgefield Country Club, located just around the corner from Webb Simpson's home. The Par 70 course extends over 7,200 yards and presents unique weather challenges. Forecasters predict rain on Friday morning, with nearly an inch expected between 7-9 a.m. ET alone. This anticipated poor weather could cause delays and alter gameplay, potentially neutralizing any weather advantages that players might have had. Regardless of the weather, the tournament is set to be an enthralling spectacle for both participants and spectators.

In fact, by PGA TOUR standards, Sedgefield Country Club's course is considered relatively easy, with an average score of roughly 0.75 strokes under par. The greens in regulation percentage is around 73%, suggesting that the majority of players can expect to hit the greens during their rounds.

This percentage jumps to a remarkable 80% for those golfers who manage to land their drives on the fairway, making it one of the highest rates across the entire TOUR. These promising statistics hint that golfers with precise driving and robust iron play may have a considerable edge on this course. Observing how they leverage these advantages during the Wyndham Championship will undoubtedly be intriguing.

The Golfers

Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim are returning to Greensboro for the Wyndham Championship, both boasting a robust performance history at this event. Their past showings suggest familiarity and comfort with the course, positioning them as potential frontrunners this week.

Additional prominent players like Sam Burns, Hideki Matsuyama, and Russell Henley are also participating, upping the competition level of the tournament. With such an accomplished roster, the Wyndham Championship is primed to offer thrilling golf moments for enthusiasts and spectators.

Three-Ball: 3 DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR Targets

Here are three potential options for DraftKings Reignmakers PGA TOUR this week:

*An earlier version of this article had Keith Mitchell who has since withdrawn from the event.

Adam Scott

Adam Scott, the seasoned Australian, will be putting his impressive playoff streak on the line this week at the Wyndham Championship. In order to make the playoffs, he needs a strong finish in this event. Fortunately, Scott has a history of success at Sedgefield Country Club, where he secured a second-place finish two years ago.

Recently, Scott has been showing promising form, gaining over 1.85 strokes in three of his last five starts. With his experience and skill, he will certainly give himself a good chance of making it to the playoffs once again come Sunday afternoon.

Beau Hossler

Hossler appears to be peaking at the perfect moment, having secured two of his best finishes this season in recent tournaments. His current form and stellar performances have propelled him to 63rd in the FedEx standings, positioning him well for a playoff berth.

Outpacing eight competitors this week will be challenging, considering he's more than 55 points ahead of Austin Eckroat, who currently sits at No. 70 in the rankings. To accumulate 55 points, one would need to place in the top 14. Therefore, with Hossler's promising form likely to provide at least two-week utility and numerous fall swing events on the horizon, it makes sense to add some Hossler to the collection this week.

J.T. Poston

Though Justin Thomas might be the more recognized "JT," he certainly hasn't been the most successful JT on the golf course over the past month. Arguably, Poston is playing better than anyone else in the field this week and is a previous winner of the event. He has already secured his place in next week's tournament and currently ranks within the top 50 in the FedEx standings.

With strong performances in the following weeks, he could easily progress to the BMW Championship, and perhaps even qualify for the prestigious TOUR Championship with a remarkable finish. Considering his current form and previous success at the Wyndham Championship, the "Postman" is expected to deliver a strong performance. He's definitely a golfer to watch and a potential addition to your Reignmakers PGA TOUR collection this week.

Slate Breakdown | The 3M Open
Jason Rouslin

As the 2023 PGA TOUR's regular season nears its end, there are only two weeks left for golfers to earn valuable FedEx Cup points and secure their positions in the top 70 of the standings. This year, the playoffs will only consist of the top 70 golfers, making it a more competitive field to get into compared to previous years when 125 golfers qualified. For Reignmakers PGA TOUR purposes, this change offers three no-cut events, providing high utility for all golfers who make it to the playoffs.

With the 3M Open on the horizon, anticipation is high to see which golfers will shine and land on the first page of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon. As the competition intensifies, participants can expect a thrilling and closely contested event with golfers pushing to secure their spots in the playoffs.

The Tournament

The 3M Open, held just outside of Minneapolis at the TPC Twin Cities course, has quickly gained popularity among local golf fans, becoming a must-attend event in the area since its inception four years ago. However, this year's tournament faces some challenges due to its placement in the schedule. Taking place the week after The Open Championship and being later in the regular season, many of the world's top golfers may not be participating. Despite this, the prize money for the Reignmakers slate remains unaffected, offering an enticing total prize pool of $275,000.

As a regular or "premium" event on the Reignmakers slate, participants have the chance to compete for significant rewards. The top prize stands at an impressive $10,000 for participants at the ELITE and REIGNMAKER tiers, making the competition highly compelling for golf enthusiasts.

With the tournament setting and the slate's lucrative prize pool, the 3M Open presents a great opportunity for participants to engage with the event and enjoy the excitement of PGA TOUR golf on the Reignmakers platform.

Now, as we shift our focus to the host venue, TPC Twin Cities, participants can explore the characteristics of the course, which will play a crucial role in determining the outcomes and leaderboard standings. Understanding the course layout and its challenges will be vital for Reignmakers participants as they strategize and select their lineups for the event.

The Course

The course in focus for this year's Open Championship, Royal Liverpool Golf Club,  is renowned for presenting a distinct set of challenges, characteristic of the links-style golf often found in this part of the world. For this edition, the course has been configured as a par 71, with a notable alteration from the previous two showings, which featured it as a par 72. This change involved replacing one par 5 with a lengthy par 4, much like how Pebble Beach modified its second hole during Major Championships.

Nestled just a stone's throw away from the Irish Sea, the course offers breathtaking views of the Welsh coastline in the distance, providing a picturesque setting for this prestigious championship. As the players take on this unique layout, they'll be tested by the coastal winds and undulating terrain, adding to the excitement and unpredictability of The Open Championship.

With its rich history and challenging design, this course will undoubtedly be a memorable battleground for the world's best golfers as they strive to etch their names into the annals of golfing greatness.

The Golfers

Indeed, the positioning of the 3M Open in the schedule presents a unique challenge, being sandwiched between a Major Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs. As a result, some of the world's top golfers have opted to take a break during this week. Nevertheless, there are still notable players who have made the trip to Minnesota to compete in the tournament.

Among the elite golfers present are Tony Finau, Cameron Young, Sungjae Im, and Justin Thomas. These players bring their exceptional skills and experience to the course, making them formidable contenders for a top spot on the leaderboard.

Additionally, Sepp Straka is one to watch, as he is currently playing some of the best golf in the world. His recent victory at the John Deere Classic and a remarkable second-place finish at The Open Championship demonstrate his talent and form, making him a strong candidate to continue his impressive run at the 3M Open.

Cameron Davis

After standing by all week at The Open Championship, being the first alternate, Davis didn’t end up getting into the event as not one golfer withdrew. I’m sure that irked him a bit, and the only thing that will prevent that from happening next year is to play better here, right now. A great course for him to do exactly that, as he’s made the cut in each of the last three years here at this event, and has a game tailor-made for success at this course.

Will Gordon

It's not the first time we've seen efforts to elevate Will Gordon's presence in the golfing world this year. However, now is the perfect moment for his talent and potential to truly shine through. Currently positioned at 89th in the FedEx Standings, Gordon finds himself in a crucial and precarious spot. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, he has a great opportunity to make significant strides in the standings and secure a spot within the top-70.

To achieve this, Gordon will need to deliver strong performances in the next two events. Two top-10 finishes or a combination of a top-5 and a made cut could be the key to propelling him into the top-70. The pressure is on, but it's also a chance for him to showcase his skills and prove his worth on the PGA TOUR.

Taylor Pendrith

Further down the FedEx standings, we find Pendrith, who is determined to make a late-season surge of his own. With impressive performances, securing top-15 finishes in two of his last three starts, Pendrith is showing signs of being in excellent form. Now, as he heads to TPC Twin Cities, his length off the tee could be a significant advantage, setting the stage for what could potentially be his third top-15 finish in four starts.

As Pendrith seeks to make a significant push up the standings, he knows he must finish the regular season strong. To secure a spot in the playoffs, he'll need an outstanding showing this week, likely finishing in the top 5, followed by another strong performance, possibly a top 25, in the following week.

Now that we’ve prepped the tournament, let’s learn about Royal Liverpool Golf Club this week’s host venue.

The Golfers

It’s major Championship time, and that means all of the best players in the world are here to compete. But because many of them don’t of Reignmakers Cards, there are only 60 golfers available for the slate. This week’s top projected lineup features in-from golfers like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, as well as a struggling Jon Rahm. Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton come very close to perennial stars Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay this week, with Cameron Young, Viktor Hovland, and a few others in play for those top lineups.

Find below a trio of options for this week's U.S. Open:

Collin Morikawa

In anticipation of clear weather and a significant improvement in his iron game, this tournament sets the stage for a performance reminiscent of Collin's victory at the 2021 Open Championship. Currently ranked at an impressive level and displaying immense potential, he stands out as the golfer with the highest upside among his peers in a similar price range. Considering the positive trajectory of his game, it would come as no surprise if he secures a victory in one of the upcoming four events he participates in.

Shane Lowry

Since January, Shane has yet to secure a top 10 placement on his scorecard. However, in the recent Scottish Open, his putter showed significant improvement, a departure from his performance throughout the year. If he manages to maintain this momentum with the putter and combine it with his strong ball-striking skills, he stands a chance to finally achieve that elusive top 10 finish. It's worth noting that he will probably participate in the Wyndham Championship in a few weeks, indicating the importance of his performance in the upcoming month. His utility in these upcoming events is likely to be crucial for his overall standing.

Hideki Matsuyama

Like Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama hasn't secured a top 10 finish since March, but it's essential to recognize that his overall performance hasn't been subpar. Apart from missing the cut in his recent start, his track record remains relatively strong. This recent setback might have provided him with ample time to rest and recuperate ahead of the current week's tournament.

PGA TOUR Reignmakers Strategy & Analysis

The Open Championship pack for the Reignmakers game offers a strong selection of golfers, making it one of the best side sets available. With only 59 golfers included, the pack features a concentrated group of players.

Notably, only 17 of them are ranked outside the top 70 in FedEx Cup points, indicating their need to perform well in the upcoming Tournaments to improve their standings. Those outside the top 70 will likely be motivated to perform consistently over the next three weeks to secure their spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

On the other hand, the golfers who are already inside the top 70 in FedEx Cup points offer excellent utility for the playoffs. As the prize pools for each playoff slate reach up to $350,000, having golfers who are in contention and likely to perform well in these high-stakes events can significantly boost users' chances of earning yield.

Overall, the Open Championship pack presents a good opportunity for users to strategically collect golfers who can provide value both in the immediate future and during the lucrative FedEx Cup playoffs. Consider checking out our premium tools to help aid your Reignmaker PGA TOUR portfolios. Good luck this and enjoy the 151st Open Championship.

A Guide to The Open Championship: DraftKings Reignmakers Edition
UFC 290 DraftKings Reignmakers Breakdown
Jason Bales

This week, DraftKings Reignmakers is offering up $125,000 in prizes between its five tiers of contests: CORE, RARE, ELITE, LEGENDARY, and REIGNMAKER.

All players from DraftKings’ Heatwave, UFC 281, UFC 282, UFC 290, and Genesis sets are eligible to compete in these contests.

With that said, this article breaks down the best fighters to consider adding to your team via the Reignmakers’ marketplace. All listed prices refer to CORE tier unless otherwise noted, but the recommendations can be agnostically applied to all other tiers.

The Good

Below are the best fighters to roster for the upcoming UFC 290 event.

Alex Volkanovski ($6 - FLOOR)

The main event of UFC 290 is an incredible showdown between the Interim UFC Featherweight Champion, Yair Rodriguez, and the man who vacated the belt to fight up a weight class, Alex Volkanovski. Volkanovski cleaned out the featherweight division before moving up to lightweight to fight Islam Makhachev. He lost a close battle, and now he is back for what is rightfully his. More importantly for DraftKings Reignmakers, he is an aggressive striker with knockout potential. His odds to win this fight are -400, and despite Rodriguez’s varied fighting background, Volkanovski is +160 inside the distance compared to Rodriguez’s +450. Take the favorite in this fight.

Jim Crute ($1.75 - FLOOR)

UFC 290 is a strange event because it features seven fights with -400 or greater favorites. Two fights are -1000 or greater, including one -2400 fight. Even the closer bouts are -200 or greater, but not Jim Crute against Alonzo Menifield. This fight is a toss up. Crute has a slight edge with the odds changing in his favor over the last 24 hours. He is now -120 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The fight, however, is -350 to end inside the distance. Both Crute and Menifield have incredible power, and this fight likely ends in fireworks. Whichever fighter comes out on top is likely to be part of the winning DraftKings Reignmakers lineup, even with all these massive favorites on the card. Target this high-upside fight for leverage and lower ownership rates.

The Bad

Below are the worst fighters to roster for the upcoming UFC 290 event.

Edgar Chairez ($0.75 - FLOOR)

Edgar Chairez is a +700 underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook, and he is going to get tossed around by Tatsuro Taira. Taira is a grappler and submission specialist, while Chairez prefers to keep it standing and strike. Unfortunately for Chairez, he’s going to end up on his back, and even if Taira doesn’t find a submission (though, he should in the first round), he is going to keep Chairez on his back for the majority of this fight. Seemingly, the best case scenario for Chairez in this fight is a three-round decision loss where he doesn’t score many fantasy points from the bottom position on the mat. Avoid at all costs.

The Obvious

Below are the most obvious fighters to roster for the upcoming UFC 290 event.

Bo Nickal ($12.50 - FLOOR)

Bo Nickal is the biggest favorite in an official UFC bout in recent memory at -2500 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The former Penn State wrestler was expected to fight Tresean Gore this week, but after a last minute fight cancellation, his opponent is now Valentine Woodburn. Woodburn is fighting on short notice against a wrestler with an endless gas tank. Nickal is going to keep him on the mat and likely finish the fight within the first or second round. This is the safest play on the card by a large margin. Don’t miss out.
