For the first time in eight years, Takashi Murakami's GEISAI artist incubation event returns to Japan, and attendees will be eligible to claim a free commemorative NFT.

The 21st installment of the event, which was announced by Murakami in March, will take place on August 21 in Tokyo, Japan. GEISAI debuted in 2001 with a focus on developing the art market in Japan, hosting contemporary works from artists across a variety of mediums, including paintings, sculptures and ceramics.

Collectors who visit the 2022 event will be eligible to claim one of 11,664 NFTs that Murakami will make available. These commemorative NFTs will be created by combining 108 possible numbers and 108 background colors, and Murakami will use PreMint for the drop. At the event, "there will be QR codes on-site for the NFT airdrop," according to Murakami.

The GEISAI NFT airdrop comes on the heels of Murakami's Lucky Cat Coin Bank NFT, which was airdropped to Murakami Flowers NFT holders in June of this year. The 9,430-count Lucky Cat collection currently has a floor price of 0.27 ETH and has traded over 1,300 ETH in total volume to date.

The floor price of Murakami's main NFT collection, Murakami Flowers, has taken a hit in recent days, setting a new low of 1.65 ETH early this morning.
