The Bulk

The Chromie Squiggles project, known for its vibrant, algorithmically generated artworks, is about to make a significant leap towards the completion of its minting process. The creator has unveiled plans to mint 81 new Squiggles in two transactions, taking place today.

The first batch of mints is targeted at appreciative community members, individuals outside of web3 who've been supportive of the creator's journey, and a few deserving organizations. Also included are several individuals from the creator's past, like an executive coach who has played a critical role in his personal and professional growth.

Ten Chromie Squiggles will be consigned to the Venus over Manhattan gallery for two years, indicating the project's ambition to bridge the gap between the traditional and web3 art worlds. Meanwhile, five Squiggles will be added to the SquiggleDAO's treasury, boosting their mission to amass 400 Squiggles.

In an expression of gratitude, the creator will mint Squiggles for every Art Blocks team member, acknowledging their indispensable support during the challenging yet rewarding journey of the last two years.

🎤 Founder Feedback

I am minting a Squiggle as a personal gift to each of my coworkers at Art Blocks. The last two years have been both some of the most exciting and some of the most trying times in my life, and Art Blocks would not be what it is today without the support of the wonderful people I get to work with every day.Snowfro

🔜 What's Next?

Stay tuned for the FlamingoDAO mint next week, another key supporter of Squiggles and the generative art medium.

Snowfro Minting 17 New Squiggles Later Today
Julian Son

Erick "Snowfro", the founder of Art Blocks and the creator of the Squiggle, announced today that 17 new Squiggles will be minted at 6 p.m. CT.

The Deets

  • 17 Squiggles will be minted later today for a handful of people that Snowfro feels have supported the medium of generative art and made meaningful contributions to the digital art universe and/or the Art Blocks ecosystem.
  • Snowfro also indicated that there will be "a lot more mints over the coming weeks as we build up towards the last mint".

🎤 Founder Feedback

From Snowfro's (@ArtOnBlockchain) tweet:

  • On the recipients of the newly minted Squiggles today and going forward: "Today I’m minting 17 Squiggles to a handful of people that have been indispensable over that last few years either for inspiration, emotional support, contributors to our digital art universe, contributors to the Art Blocks ecosystem specifically, or supporters of the medium of generative art by supporting artists and fellow collectors alike. THANK YOU. Also including a handful of Squiggles in each of the next few mints for organizations and institutions that I admire and am excited to be a part of their collecting journey now and in the future. Some I will be able to disclose, others I will not until they are ready to disclose."
  • On future mints: "Expect a lot more mints over the coming weeks as we build up towards the last mint. I have some fun stuff planned for the remaining Squiggles which I’ll share soon."

❗ Why It Matters

Two weeks ago, VerticalCrypto Art and Right Click Save collaborated on a charity auction for 10 unminted Squiggles that raised 186 ETH for The ALS Association. And although Snowfro first minted Chromie Squiggles in November 2020, he never actually finished minting all 10,000 Squiggles (inclusive of the 17 Squiggles that will be minted later today, 9,791 will have been minted to date). Erick has been very selective about the occasions on which unminted Squiggles are released, which is one of the reasons why last month's charity auction for the 10 unminted Squiggles generated so much interest.

And so the door always remained open for the last phase of mints, which now looks to be slated for the coming weeks and months.

  • Tribute Brand NFC Chips: Each sweater will be embedded with Tribute Brand NFC chips for additional experiences via the Tribute App.

The Bulk

Tribute Brand has taken a novel step in the NFT fashion industry by incorporating distinctive traits of Chromie Squiggles into the production of unique sweaters. The sweaters will be handmade by Waste Yarn Project, a conscious initiative that uses surplus yarns to produce 100% zero-waste knitwear. Each sweater will be a distinct 1of1ofX, tailored to the traits of the specific Chromie Squiggle it's based on.

Tribute Brand's NFC chips will be embedded in each sweater. When interacted with via the Tribute App, these chips will unlock unique digital experiences.

Snowfro's Auction of 10 Unminted Squiggles Sell for Combined 186 ETH
Julian Son

The auction for the 10 unminted Squiggles in "Snowfro’s Squiggles: The Auction” ended today and sold for a combined 186.3 ETH ($333.5k USD).

The Deets

  • VerticalCrypto Art and Right Click Save collaborated on this unminted Squiggles charity auction in support of The ALS Association via The Giving Block.
  • The format was a ranked auction of ten unminted Chromie Squiggles that lasted 24 hours.
  • The ten highest bidders will receive their Chromie Squiggles, minted by Snowfro himself.
  • Auction results can be seen at gallery.verticalcrypto.art/bid/squiggles.
  • The top bid was 19.9 ETH ($35,620), and the tenth highest bid was 18.0 ETH ($32,200).
  • The ten unminted Squiggle IDs are: 9764, 9765, 9766, 9767, 9768, 9769, 9770, 9771, 9772, and 9773.
  • The highest bidder will receive Squiggle ID 9764, the second highest bidder will receive Squiggle ID 9765, and the tenth highest bidder will receive Squiggle ID 9773.

❗ Why It Matters

Squiggles are the genesis project of Snowfro (née Erick Calderon), the founder and CEO of Art Blocks. They were first minted in November 2020 for 0.035 ETH (!), but Snowfro actually never finished minting all of them. The Chromie Squiggle page on the Art Blocks site shows that 9,764 (soon to be 9,774) of 10,000 have been minted. So this auction represented a rare opportunity to acquire an unminted Chromie Squiggle.

In many ways, Snowfro's Chromie Squiggles are the emblem of the generative art movement and reflect the vibrant foundation that Art Blocks was built on. And with Snowfro being so selective about the occasions on which unminted Squiggles are to be released, this auction of unminted Squiggles was certainly a fantastic way to raise money for ALS research.

📊 By the Numbers

The 10 unminted Squiggles sold for about 18.6 ETH each on average, representing a nearly 50% premium to the floor of 12.5 ETH on OpenSea Pro.

Tessera Announces ApeCoin Staking Vault, Chromie Squiggle Auction
Ghost

Collective ownership platform Tessera announced the launch of an ApeCoin staking vault on Monday, with both the lack of a geo-filter and the ability to auto-compound yield providing alternative options to other $APE staking methods.

The vault currently only serves the $APE-only pool, with the NFT-gated staking pools will be rolled out at a later date.

The auto-compounder feature allows users to automatically deploy rewards back into the pool, passively compounding earning.

ApeStake.io is the official front-end interface from Horizen Labs, the blockchain technology company tasked with building out ApeCoin staking. The platform is currently geo-blocked in several countries (including the United States) due to regulatory concerns, forcing many users to seek out alternatives.

Tessera also announced their second fractionalized vault coming Thursday, with a Chromie Squiggle from Snowfro up for purchase. 250 'raes', or NFTs that represent a share of ownership over the vaulted NFT, will be created and sold utilitizing a last price dutch auction format.

The previous vault, which featured CryptoPunk #4847, was bought out for 82 ETH by notable market-maker PunksOTC.

WETH Offer Acceptance Rate Reaches ATH
Tyler Warner

The acceptance rate of WETH offers for Ethereum-based NFTs hit a new all-time high today, according to data from NFT Statistics (@punk9059). This surge is likely tied to the macro crypto volatility in the markets today.

NFT Statistics, the Director of Research at Proof, shared the information in a tweet this morning. According to his data, the ratio of WETH offers to market buys spiked over 0.4 (40%). The previous high was just over 0.3 (30%) in early October.

Let's take a look at some specific collections, with a focus on the number of WETH offers accepted versus total sales.

  • Bored Ape Yacht Club: 7 WETH offers out of 11 sales (63.6%)
  • CryptoPunks*: 2 WETH offers out of 8 sales (25%)
  • Azuki: 9 WETH offers out of 15 sales (60%)
  • DigiDaigaku: 2 WETH offers out of 5 sales (40%)
  • Moonbirds: 10 WETH offers out of 14 sales (71%)
  • Squiggles: 6 WETH offers out of 12 sales (50%)

*Punk metrics based on bids accepted vs market buys.

So Moonbirds owners are "capitulating" the most, with Punk owners the least.

Another important takeaway from the high-level data is the general trend line. The WETH ratio seems to be moving steadily up as this year progresses. The rate was in the 0.05-0.1 range from January to May (bull market) but has been grinding up since. Since October, the ratio has been in the 0.2-0.3 range, indicating that 1 of every 3-4 sales is someone taking a WETH offer.

How can an NFT trader use this information?

Well, consider making WETH offers for NFTs instead of market buying. This trend will likely continue as long as the crypto volatility continues.
