Smilesss Founder Waheed Zai issued a statement to the community earlier today, insisting the NFT project is not a rug and is currently dealing with unspecified legal issues.
"It [has] been months," Zai began. "I have heard everything that the community had to say. I've been involved in those conversations; from being labeled a rug to Smilesss not deserving this community to everything else in between. I get it, trust me, I do."
Zai went on the explain the silence over the past few months.
"The silence in the past couple [of] months has been due to many factors, one aspect being legal," he continued. "This has put me in a [position] to not be able to speak on certain factors until everything gets resolved and until all parties go about their [business]. This has nothing to do with the bear [market] or how the market is doing, but everything to do with internal restructuring."
The project's founder said he spent the last couple of months fighting for the future of his creation, but ensured the community he is still committed to building what he set out to create.
"I am the one that is the most disappointed with how things unfolded, but I don't have the luxury to walk away," he said. "I am not going to walk away; I just need time. The community has been very patient with me, [and] I don't take that sh*t for granted."
Zai does not blame other members of the team for walking away, and he appreciates the community's continued support, according to the post. He claims to have identified the problem and removed it and hopes to get back to "regular scheduled programming" soon.
"Before I end my thoughts, though there is so much more to say, I just want to say thank you to those of you who took the time to reach out and remind me it's okay to not be okay and to allow myself to feel the overwhelming emotion," he concluded. "Those words have been pillars during such clouded days."

The Smilesss Discord has been compromised according to a recent tweet from the team.

As a reminder, users should never click any links claiming to be a stealth mint.
Smilesss announced a collaboration with NBA superstar Steph Curry in a tweet this afternoon.
More details are expected shortly, but here's what we know so far:
Each time Steph Curry makes a three-point shot in the NBA Finals, nine free NFTs featuring a basketball with Curry's name on it can be reserved at https://lab.currybrand.com/currycounter.
Once on the site, users can connect their wallets to be prepared to reserve an NFT. As soon as Steph makes a three-pointer, users will need to click reserve for their change to buy the NFT. Only users who successfully reserve the NFT will be able to purchase the NFT, which has no cost. Users will only need to pay a gas fee to complete their transactions.
Though shared by the Smilesss team, the reservation process is open to anyone, not just Smilesss holders. More details about the Smilesss involvement is expected soon.
The claim for the Smilesss PFP went live for holders according to a recent announcement from the team.
Holders can head over to the portal to claim their Smilesss PFP. Once there, users can connect their wallet and select the NFT(s) they wish to claim a PFP for.
The PFP version of the NFT cannot be bought or sold on its own, users who buy Smilesss on secondary must go back to the portal to transfer the PFP NFT that matches up with their Smilesss.
Smilesss announced that the claiming window for new PFPs will begin tomorrow. Look out for the official link to the claiming page in a Discord announcement tomorrow. The PFPs are a "Fisheye lens view from above" of holders' current NFTs.
Claiming the new PFP will be free plus gas, and multiple PFPs can be claimed in the same transaction for wallets that hold more than 1 Smilesss NFT. Users will not be able to buy, sell or trade the PFP NFT as it is tied directly to the original Smilesss NFT. The PFPs will only transfer ownership when the original Smilesss NFT is sold.
Smilesssvrs provided an update today regarding the 3-D full body PFPs the project plans to drop for holders in the near future. Specifically, the announcement notes that the NFT will be free to claim for Smilesssvrs holders, and the PFPs will "match" the original collection. PFP NFTs will not be able to be traded, as they are "tied directly to your Smilesssvrs NFT."
The collection will reveal instantly and there will be no claim deadline. According to the team, the art is complete and the mechanics are "ready to go." The claim date is currently TBD.
Updates to the Smilesssvrs PFPs have begun. Waheed has updated each individual trait and manipulated them to make sure they fit into the camera view. The images will go through rendering before being reviewed by the team.
Smilesssvrs is working with Atlantic Records on the Pooh Shiesty collaboration. A T-Shirt is available for purchase to holders of a Smilesssvrs NFT or the Smilesss x Shiesty Season NFTs. A Ski Mask will be available to the holders for free.
The Smilesssvrs Discord was compromised back in March which affects some holders. The NFTs that were lost have been acquired and the team will be refunding all of the affected holders who completed the requested actions. If you were affected, please reach out to the team within the next 30 days to acquire your lost assets.
The Smilesssvrs team will be moving Town Halls and AMAs to Thursday afternoons to accomodate feedback from the community. The next AMA will be on May 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Smilesssvrs provided additional information regarding its partnership with Pooh Shiesty in an announcement today.
- The collab collection will drop on April 27.
- The 1,000-piece collection will consist of four editions of 250 each.
- The original album cover created for Shiesty will be auctioned off as a 1/1 piece.
- This should not be considered a companion collection to Smilesssvrs. A Smilesss x Shiesty token "will not act as an access token into the Smilesss universe."
