Forgotten Runes Wizard's Cult released its yearly production plan, detailing "New Foundations," the next big event in the Forgotten Runiverse.

The Deets

  • Mint Seals of Tenure: Unlock your ability to interact with the World Map's plots.
  • Scheduled for Q1 End: Mark your calendars for the launch of the New Foundations event.
  • Pound and Nail's Return: The legendary builders essential for establishing your presence in the Runiverse.
  • Incremental Gameplay Improvements: Expect new mintable rewards, combat opportunities, and quality of life updates.

The Bulk

The Forgotten Runiverse development team made a commitment to deliver four dynamic events throughout 2024, each designed to deepen the gameplay and lore of the Runiverse. "New Foundations" leads the charge, enabling players to mint Seals of Tenure and engage with plots across an expansive World Map.

This initiative follows the success of the Eve of Memory event late last year. The introduction of NFT plots is a move towards a more interactive and immersive game world.

Legendary builders Pound and Nail emerge as central figures in this narrative, their expertise key to unlocking new realms of construction and exploration in the Runiverse. The event is set to build upon the groundwork laid during the Eve of Memory, with the return of almost 20 million Mana marking a pivotal moment in the game's lore.

Players can anticipate a suite of enhancements, from mintable rewards and new combat opportunities to improved gameplay mechanics. These updates reflect the team's focus on refining the player experience, informed by direct community input.

The Forgotten Ruinverse Releases Massive Progress Update

Forgotten Rune Wizard's Cult dropped a massive update on the development of the Forgotten Runiverse and an update on the global distribution deal for its upcoming comic book series.

The Deets

  • Unique city architecture and expandable neighborhoods
  • Diverse battle scenes for landmarks, dungeons, and regions
  • Varied enemies, skills, and status effects in battles
  • Rewards include customizable decorations for player houses
  • Economy design and whitepaper still in progress

The Details

Cities in the game have received a refreshing update, with each one now boasting unique architecture and a variety of explorable neighborhoods. Neighborhoods act as self-contained instances within larger cities, allowing for continuous growth and expansion as new content is released, keeping cities relevant to gameplay experiences.

The team has also made impressive progress on the game's battle scenes, with unique visuals for every landmark, dungeon, and region. Alongside these scenes, new enemy types have been introduced, each belonging to a "family" with aligned traits across basic, elite, and boss enemies. Skills used in battles now feature unique artwork and can inflict status effects depending on their type and strength.

As players achieve victories in battles, they can earn rewards that allow them to craft and customize their house decorations. To obtain the most impressive rewards, players need to delve deep into the game's dungeons.

Behind the scenes, the level design and programming team have been testing and defining collision for objects and environments, while the design team is refining the game's economy in preparation for the release of a whitepaper.

Why It Matters

Despite building since early 2021, Forgotten Runes has been overshadowed by many other "more shiny" projects in the NFT space. This update provides a glimpse of the major ambitions of the project as well as the potential its IP and lore hold. While many may be aware of the sums thrown at Yuga Labs, it's easy to forget that Forgotten Runes has also raised a massive warchest to tackle its roadmap

📊 By the Numbers

The Forgotten Runes Wizard's Cult holds a floor price of 0.8 ETH and has been pretty stable in that range, though down 13 percent over the past 30 days.

Forgotten Runes Releases New Details on Upcoming Game
Tyler Warner

In a Twitter thread this afternoon, Forgotten Runes founder Dotta (@dotta) outlined several new details for their upcoming Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game ("MMORPG"). The thread is mostly focused on the combat mechanics of the game, which Dotta describes as "dynamic, strategic, and rewarding."

Highlights from the update include:

  • Memory Crystals will be earned to customize character abilities, which build on each other
  • Each player will have to eventually choose a Color Path, defining different factions with different specialties
  • Specialization will unlock the ability to gather High Crystals, which unlock higher abilities
  • There will be three tiers of enemies, including Minions, Elites, and Bosses
  • Dungeons and enemies will scale with character levels, and Dungeons will involve progressively harder fights and will provide rewards
  • There will be active PVP areas of the world, and the player initiating combat has an advantage
  • Victory: defeating an enemy yields XP and resources to upgrade your character

Beyond those details, Dotta shared that the team of 35 full-time resources (35!) is making great progress and expects a fully playable game in Q1 2023.

Dotta also throws shade at other play-to-earn crypto games, calling them "yield farms with pretty pictures," and goes on to describe the Forgotten Runiverse game as a "full World-of-Warcraft style MMO built by industry veterans who know how to build a *fun* game, grounded in crypto-ownership."

The Ruinverse is said to be a fantasy-based MMO metaverse with "create-to-earn" mechanics. You can learn more about the project and the world it is building at runiverse.world
