Otherside Metaverse Launches StarMap Update
Staff Writer

The Otherside Metaverse provided a StarMap update alongisde a handful of other gameplay details on Tuesday.

The Deets

  • Shades’ power diminishes, leading to the emergence of The Shattered in Otherside
  • Voyagers must employ skillful strategies to protect wounded defenders
  • Game cards with slots and hitpoints (HP) are crucial in battles
  • Defeating The Shattered leads to rewards known as Unearthed Artifacts

The Bulk

The game's narrative significantly shifts as we move into Season 2 of Legends of the Mara. The struggle of the Shades to contain The Shattered crumbles, leading to their full manifestation in Otherside. This manifestation unchains their wrath, making the landscape of the game much more challenging for Koda, Kodamara, Mara, and The Friends.

Voyagers, therefore, have to rapidly mobilize and strategize to buffer the relentless assaults by The Shattered. To keep the Otherside's defenders safe, only a well-thought-out strategy can mitigate the damage taken in the battles. This strategy involves strategically equipping slots and hitpoints (HP) on a game card.

However, the fight does not end when a card's HP is exhausted. Voyagers can either wait for the card to recover during a cooldown period or employ other mechanisms to heal sooner. Upon healing, the card will return to the battlefield to continue defending Otherside.

In this perilous landscape, the reward for bravery and strategy is rich. Once a Voyager defeats The Shattered, they are rewarded with treasures known as Unearthed Artifacts. These artifacts enhance gameplay within Legends of the Mara and also aid The Friends.

Otherside Metaverse Launches StarMap Update
Legends of the Mara: Unveiling Key Strategies and Playstyles
Austin Ketterling

Yuga Labs provided strategic insights into the Legends of the Mara game, detailing various playstyles, Vessels, and the significance of Mara transformations.

The Deets

  • Players can choose from three Vessel types: Hunters, Farmers, and Enchanters
  • Each Vessel can hatch into a corresponding type of Mara if nested properly
  • Maras can be assigned to Otherdeeds to farm, hunt, or perform unique tasks
  • The rarest Kodamara recipe has been lost, urging players to experiment with Mara transformations

The Bulk

Legends of the Mara, the upcoming game from the Otherside Metaverse, offers players a variety of strategic choices and playstyles. The game revolves around three types of Vessels: Hunters, Farmers, and Enchanters. By nesting a Vessel, players can hatch a corresponding Mara with unique abilities and functions.

Once a Mara is hatched, it can be assigned to an Otherdeed. Depending on its type, the Mara will farm Sediment Fragments, hunt, or perform an exclusive task related to Enchanters, which will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Players can transform their Maras into powerful Kodamaras by combining them with Sediment Fragments and a Seasonal Catalyst. A Kodamara's appearance, trait rarity, and game function are influenced by the player's choices. The recipe for creating the rarest Kodamara has been lost, encouraging players to experiment with different combinations.

Defeating The Shattered, mysterious titans that emerged after the Vessels descended, rewards players with rare and exclusive treasures. Efficiently defeating these adversaries increases the value of the treasure obtained.

Otherdeed Expanded traits will unlock gameplay for Legends of the Mara, with future seasons introducing artifacts and resources that further impact strategic decisions.

❗Why It Matters

The strategic depth of Legends of the Mara offers players a gaming experience with diverse playstyles and decision-making opportunities. As the game evolves through future seasons, it will continue to challenge and engage players while expanding the game's mechanics.

📊 By the Numbers

Legends of the Mara is an ApeCoin powered game, but the Yuga ecosystem token, $APE, is down nearly 2 percent in the last 24 hours to $3.36. $APE is now more than 87 percent off its all-time high of $26.70 and is No. 41 on CoinGecko's cryptocurrency marketcap rankings.

Koda Decoupling and Vessel Claim Going Live in One Hour
Julian Son

The Koda Decoupling and Vessel Claim will be going live in approximately one hour, according to a tweet from @OthersideMeta.

The Deets

  • The Koda Decoupling and Vessel Claim will take place in approximately one hour at lotm.otherside.xyz/expanded and will be open indefinitely.
  • Voyagers can select up to 99 Otherdeeds at a time for the Decoupling and Vessel Claim.
  • Only Otherdeeds with a Koda can Decouple, but all Otherdeeds can claim a Vessel.
    • In order to decouple, your Otherdeed must be burned. Burning your original Otherdeed will yield a Koda NFT, and an Otherdeed Expanded NFT, without the Koda. Each will exist in a new collection, independent of one another.
    • The same applies to Otherdeed holders that claim a vessel. After claiming, you will receive a new Vessel NFT and an Otherdeed Expanded NFT.
    • Koda Decoupling & Vessel Claim will also yield a Koda Origins Obelisk piece, which will be added to the metadata of your newly minted Otherdeed Expanded NFT.
  • Both Otherdeed Expanded and Otherside Vessel NFT’s token IDs will match their burned Otherdeed for Otherside token ID. Otherside Koda NFT token IDs will match the Koda metadata on their current Otherdeed.
  • The claim process is best done through a desktop browser.

❗ Why It Matters

The Koda Decoupling and Vessel Claim event allows users to participate in unlocking future gameplay experiences and activations, including Otherside: Legends of the Mara. Additionally, the Koda decoupling may better provide a more efficient market for the trading of the prized Yuga assets.

Gucci and Yuga Labs revealed a limited-edition KodaPendant NFT and physical necklace in collaboration a recent tweet

The Deets

  • 3,333 limited edition KodaPendant NFTs
  • Physical KodaPendant: 925 silver, antique finish, GG engraving, and unique edition number
  • Eligible particpants must own a Koda or Vessel NFT
  • Sale starts April 6, 6:00 p.m. ET for 24 hours or until sold out
  • Price: 450 $APE

The Details

Gucci and Yuga Labs have partnered to release a limited edition KodaPendant NFT and physical necklace, expanding Gucci's entry in web3. The collaboration offers 3,333 KodaPendants that provide a digital visual upgrade to existing Koda or Vessel NFTs, including trail VFX and a branded chat handle in Otherside.

The physical KodaPendant is crafted from 925 silver with an antique finish, featuring a Koda-shaped pendant with GG engraving and an interlocking G chain. Each pendant's back includes a unique edition number. The sale begins on Thursday, Apr. 6 at 6:00 p.m. ET and lasts for 24 hours or until all KodaPendants are sold out. The price for each KodaPendant is set at 450 APE.

KodaPendants will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to one per transaction for one Koda or Vessel NFT.

When you buy the KodaPendant, you receive a metadata trait that provides a lasting visual enhancement to your chosen Koda or Vessel NFT, now adorned with a digital KodaPendant necklace. The physical KodaPendant will be available to claim from Gucci, at no additional cost, to those who hold a Koda or Vessel NFT with the KodaPendant trait.

Why It Matters

What are Kodas good for? Many have asked the question. While this is very unlikely to be the ultimate purpose behind the cryptic character, it is one of the first notable activiations of the character. Furthermore, the collaboration gives more legs to Yuga Labs partnership with Gucci, which is famously attached to 10KTF with the Gucci Grail collection. Yuga Labs acquired 10KTF last year and continues to unfold a complex lore and storytelling ecosystem with the brand. Last but not least, the physical redemption offers something similar to Koda holders like Punks were provided with the Tiffany's engagement, albeit at a much cheaper price point.

🎬 Take Action

If you are a Koda or Vessel NFT holder, you can participate in the sale starting on April 6. Select regions are not eligible for the sale. Physical pendants will ultimately be claimable on a Gucci website later this year.

Unlock The New Adventure with Otherside: Legends of the Mara
Lennster

Otherside unveils Legends of the Mara, an exclusive gaming adventure for Otherdeed holders via Twitter. This 2D standalone game, fueled by ApeCoin, presents fresh NFT collections and an unparalleled gaming experience tailored for Otherdeed owners.

🔎 The Deets

  • LOTM offers an immersive gaming experience where Voyagers claim a Vessel NFT and interact with Koda, Mara, and Kodamara collections.
  • Vessels serve as meteor shelters for Shades and have different functions: Hunting, Farming, or Enchanting.
  • Claim period for Vessels begins soon, allowing Otherdeed holders to participate in the game starting in May.

The Details

LOTM is an engaging and interactive game built around the Otherside Koda collection and the new Mara collection. Players, known as Voyagers, can claim a Vessel NFT for each Otherdeed they own. The Vessel, which houses a Shade, is an essential element for defending the Otherside. They are assigned one of three functions at random and determine the type of Mara that will eventually emerge.

Kodas are the primary keepers of Otherside, possessing a natural ability to Hunt, Enchant, and Farm at much higher power levels than Mara or Kodamara. They can be assigned to an Otherdeed to perform any of these functions, with role assignment details to be revealed in future activations.

Why It Matters

LOTM's introduction of new NFT collections and its immersive gaming experience are significant for the broader crypto and NFT ecosystems. By creating an engaging, interactive platform, LOTM showcases the potential of NFTs and blockchain technology in revolutionizing the gaming industry.

The long-awaited return to Otherside for the Second Trip will be on March 25, according to an announcement from the official @OthersideMeta account.

❗ Why It Matters

The First Trip was back on July 16, 2022. And while the Second Trip was always slated for this month, now there's finally an official date (but no exact time yet; that remains TBA). The advancement of the Otherside Metaverse is a critical execution point for Yuga Labs, which utilized major resources both internally and via the primary marketplace to market its Otherside launch. It's been nearly a year since the official launch and while the First Trip was received warmly, the Second Trip could be a unique inflection point for Yuga sentiment following the TwelveFold auction, which received some criticism for its hasty launch.

The Deets

  • Second Trip will bring Voyagers into Otherside for an interactive gaming experience.
    • It will be led by four Otherside Team Captains (details on Team Captains will be shared in a separate Yuga blog at a later date).
  • Otherdeed holders will have priority access and can also invite a guest into the Second Trip.
    • Guest passes are not guaranteed entry (there will be more details on how guest pass invitations work in the coming weeks).
  • The playable region list from First Trip is being expanded, which will allow more Voyagers to participate.
  • Everybody is invited to watch along on the official livestream.
  • Voyagers who attend the Second Trip WILL be eligible to earn the FIRST TRIP Obelisk Piece.
    • All Otherdeeds held in the connecting wallet will receive this metadata update.
    • If you already have received the FIRST TRIP Obelisk piece on your Otherdeed, there will be no change in metadata.

🎬 Take Action

  • Prospective Voyagers will be able to enter the experience 15 minutes prior to the start of the Second Trip.
  • "Logging into the Second Trip will be the same process as First Trip. [Yuga] will provide the link here on Mar. 25. "

🔜 What’s Next?

The exact time on Saturday, Mar. 25, is still TBA, and Yuga promised that a Second Trip FAQ page will also be available soon.

Obelisk pieces can be viewed following the event at otherside.xyz/my-otherdeeds.

Take Another Trip in the Otherside
How Are NFTs Holding Up?
Tyler Warner

Today has been a very volatile day in the crypto markets, to say the least. Binance is set to potentially acquire FTX in a blockbuster move, and early fallout from the news has sent several crypto tokens down sharply.

So what is the early impact on the NFT market?

Market Volume Impact

For starters, volume is down. Yesterday OpenSea hit $12M in trading volume, but so far today has just $5.45M (on pace for ~$7M). This is partially caused by the dipping ETH price (-18.7% to $1,300), as well as crypto trading clogging up the Ethereum blockchain and driving up gas prices.

But in general, NFT liquidity typically dries up on very volatile macro crypto days.

That lack of liquidity has started to impact some NFT project sectors.

PFP Impact

The top-end PFP market is holding steady, so far.

BAYC is at 66.8 ETH on Blur (removing flagged assets) and 69.5 ETH on OpenSea (+0.74%). CryptoPunks are at 64.69 ETH, even on the day, but leading the volume charts with 546 ETH traded (flight to quality).

Mid-tier PFPs are down slightly, with CloneX at 8.6 ETH (-2.6%), MAYC at 12.35 ETH (-0.56%), and Azuki at 11.07 ETH (-1.2%), though the 3 sets have combined for just 156 ETH volume.

Though, while these projects' floors are mostly steady in ETH terms, they are now down ~20 percent in USD with the recent ETH dip.

Recent Movers Impact

The volatility seems to have hurt recent project movers the most.

Friendship Bracelets opened the day at 0.3 ETH floor but have since dropped 30 percent to 0.2 ETH. KPR has fallen 16 percent to 0.64 ETH, and RENGA has given back some recent gains, falling 12 percent to 1.05 ETH. Art Gobblers also continue their recent downtrend, falling another 6 percent to 3.8 ETH as GOO hits $11.7 (-14%).

Other (Surprising) Impacts

Perhaps the biggest and most important NFT takeaway from this crypto volatility is out of Frank DeGods and the Solana ecosystem. For those not following, SOL has been one of the hardest-hit tokens (besides FTT), down 26 percent on the day to $23.79.

This has led Frank to reconsider his future on Solana.

To be clear, he indicates no "rash decisions" will be made and promises to engage the community in the decision-making process.

The y00ts floor has taken a beating on the day, down 20 percent to 58 SOL ($1,379 or 1.05 ETH). The mint t00bs are down ~10 percent at 82.5 SOL.

UPDATE: as of 3:51 p.m. ET Frank shared that he deleted his tweets about moving to ETH, due to their impact. He did mention that dialogue will remain open but "No decisions will be made today."

This situation is all still evolving and the full extent of the impacts likely will not be known for days (perhaps weeks). Additionally, NFT market action does typically lag crypto actions, so there may be greater moves over the next few days.

One thing is fairly likely though - we will not see a big NFT rally until the crypto markets re-stabilize.
